Purchase
Summary: antik17-66 expresses concerns about a $340 invoice received from an eBay seller for an auction won at $258 and wonders whether the seller can legally raise the amount. Several participants point out the importance of considering VAT, customs, and import fees, which can often be added to the initial cost, and advise checking these fees before making an international purchase. noctisauxroses criticizes antik17-66’s lack of preparation and suggests contacting eBay customer service for more clarity. flashs92 explains VAT rules depending on the different international selling situations.

For your info, before coming here, the first step is to contact the seller.
And before buying abroad, make sure you're able to communicate with your foreign seller, that's basic stuff^^

·3 years agoHello
there's something that bothers me in this VAT story.
either the seller has an IOSS number and collects the VAT, which it remits to the importer’s tax authorities
and its price must be displayed including tax for each country, which should happen automatically since Ebay knows the buyer's country of residence.
or Ebay is the one collecting it and Ebay indicates the VAT amount before the sale is finalized
or the seller is not registered for the One-Stop Shop and Ebay does not collect the tax and the carrier does it at the time of delivery
There is no case where the seller sells tax-free and then charges VAT afterward
You should ask the seller what this extra charge corresponds to

·3 years agoAnd the VAT and customs and import fees, did you check beforehand? I think your seller is being very nice; personally, in your case, no discount at all. When you buy abroad, you're supposed to know what you have to pay, especially these customs, VAT and import fees. I'm fed up with all the whiners who can't even be bothered to look up the law
By the way, an spell checker would have done our pupils good^^
