Fake profile hunt
Summary: maudez44 complains about fake profiles on eBay that drive up bids, especially on antique paintings, and has decided to stop taking part in auctions. frelonverre suggests buying with Buy It Now, noting that this problem also exists in traditional auctions. red71-2011 suggests bidding in the last few seconds or contacting the seller directly, pointing out that this requires a good Internet connection, as frelonverre notes. red71-2011 shares that they have often missed out on auctions because of a poor connection, but that it has improved with fiber.

·1 year agoHello,
It's unfortunate indeed, but to avoid encouraging a fake profile to outbid your offer, you simply need to bid in the last 5 seconds or make an offer to the seller via messaging if the option isn't available in the listing.

this is only feasible with a quality internet connection otherwise count on more than 8 seconds

Absolutely!
And I’ve missed so many auctions because of the fog and slow connection speeds. 😅
Now I’ve got fiber, it’s much better.

buy it as a buy-it-now, because whether it's in the auction room or in online bidding you'll be up against the same people
