Police logbook
Summary: lemedaillier is looking for advice on handling customs obligations when buying and reselling items on eBay. He wonders whether it’s necessary to collect sellers’ identity information, which seems hard to obtain. frelonverre suggests taking screenshots of the purchases as a temporary solution, since sellers generally do not provide this information. clementvigne expresses hope that eBay could be clearer on this subject. No one else has yet shared a similar recent experience.
Hello,
Has anyone already dealt with customs regarding purchases made on Ebay from private individuals? I have to keep a police log because I buy items on Ebay from private sellers to resell them, and I am normally required to ask sellers for the information shown on their ID card. That seems very difficult for Ebay to me, and I put myself in the shoes of a seller being asked for this information online! Several posts on the help forum indicate that the Ebay proof of purchase should be enough, but if someone has already had this experience and has any advice / and or knows a customs officer I would be delighted to have it!
Thanks
Clément

my experience of these run-ins between ebay and the authorities (judicial, financial and customs) is too old to be of any use
what I do know is that no seller on ebay will provide you with this information, even though it's mandatory for keeping a police logbook, so screenshot all your purchases

Has anyone been in this situation recently? I would have expected eBay, which is above all a second-hand marketplace, to be more explicit about this!!
