European right to repair directive: what professional sellers need to know.

If you sell products to buyers located in the European Union, you may need to update your product repair information as well as your communications with buyers in order to comply with the new European Union rules on the right to repair. As of July 31, 2026, when a buyer contacts you about a defective product and asserts their rights under the legal guarantee, you will need to give them the choice between repair and replacement of the product. If the buyer chooses repair, the legal guarantee applicable to the product is extended by 12 months. This rule applies to consumer goods in general. What you need to do For consumer goods in general: If you are a professional seller offering products to buyers located in the European Union and a buyer asserts their legal rights during the warranty period, you must comply with the following requirements: ●      If a product is reported as defective, you will need to let the buyer choose between repair and replacement of the product. ●      If the buyer chooses repair, the duration of the legal guarantee applicable to the product is extended by 12 months. You must also inform the buyer of this extension before carrying out the repair. We recommend that you review and update the procedures applicable to your warranties as well as all published terms and conditions to take these obligations into account. Purchases made before July 31, 2026 are not subject to these requirements. Additional requirements applicable to certain products covered by Annex II: Additional requirements may apply to certain product categories covered by Annex II of the directive, including washing machines, washer-dryers, refrigerators, dishwashers, televisions, vacuum cleaners, tumble dryers, welding equipment, smartphones, tablets, cordless phones, servers and data storage equipment, as well as products equipped with batteries intended for light electric vehicles (such as electric bikes and scooters). These requirements apply if you are a manufacturer established in the European Union. If the manufacturer is located outside the European Union, the repair obligation must be handled by an actor established in the European Union. This may be the manufacturer's authorized representative in the European Union or, failing that, the importer, or the distributor if there is no importer. For products covered by Annex II ●      Consult the European ecodesign rules applicable to your products to determine which spare parts, repair information, and repair services you must provide, as well as how long they must be offered for . ●      Offer repair services for as long as your repair obligation applies. ●      On eBay, publish information about repairing your products, including warranty conditions, the repair options offered, and the usual prices charged. You can publish this information in seller comments, the item description, and/or the order confirmation email. Even if the repair obligations set out in Annex II do not apply to you, you can still help your buyers by telling them who to contact to have their product repaired. We wish you lots of success with your sales on eBay.

European directive on the universal charger: laptops added

The European Universal Charger Directive, which came into force on December 28, 2024, aims to reduce electronic waste by requiring a single type of charger for certain rechargeable devices. It applies only to professional sellers.   Professional sellers who list certain electronic devices for the first time on the markets of the European Union and Northern Ireland must:       Limit your offering to electronic devices equipped with a USB-C port       Offer the option to buy the device without a charger (when a charger is included)       Display a pictogram and a label on your listings Starting April 28, 2026, these requirements will also apply to laptops.   Discover our video to help you optimize your listings, step by step.   To learn more about the European Universal Charger Directive, including which products are affected, and to get advice, visit our Seller Hub .   Thank you for your loyalty to the eBay Community

Intermittent technical issues and seller protection

Dear sellers,   We are aware of occasional technical issues affecting certain parts of the eBay platform since Sunday. We are doing what is necessary to resolve this issue and thank you for your patience.   eBay will protect your seller performance by automatically removing:   negative or neutral feedback related to these technical issues the impact on your performance related to the affected orders (cancellations and disputes closed without any action on your part)   We will also protect your performance metrics, including your valid tracking upload rate and your on-time shipping rate.    If one of your auctions ended after April 26 at 9:01 PM (Paris time) and you believe it was affected, you can cancel the order. In this case, your seller performance will be protected and the final value fees as well as the fees related to promoted listings will be refunded to you.   We know how essential platform reliability is for your business and we thank you for your understanding while this issue is being resolved.   We will continue to keep you informed of upcoming updates here.   The eBay team

Make your sponsored ads even more attractive with videos

Online shopping has never been so visual, and video has become one of the most effective ways to help buyers understand what you’re selling, build their confidence, and drive sales.   That’s why we’re launching video as a new way to showcase your items in Promoted Listings with priority strategy . This feature, currently in beta , marks a first step toward more dynamic and more engaging advertising on eBay. As we gather seller feedback and analyze performance, we’ll continue to refine and evolve the experience.   Why use video    With video, buyers can see your item in action, quickly understand its key features, and buy with confidence. You can use video to:  Stand out in search results and in the most visible placements on eBay Show what the item looks like, whether it’s compatible, and how it works in real-world conditions Highlight details that photos alone can’t show Build trust to support buyers’ decision-making   How video works    You can now use short videos in Promoted Listings with priority strategy. Videos automatically play in certain placements on eBay. If a placement doesn’t support video, your ad will automatically show the item photo.   To get started, it’s simple:  If your listing already includes a video, you can use it in your ad with no extra effort. Otherwise, you can upload a short video when you create or edit a campaign. You can add one video per listing, with a duration of 5 to 60 seconds.   Your billing method remains unchanged. Promoted Listings with video continue to work on a cost-per-click basis.    Tips for creating effective videos   You don’t need professional equipment. The most effective videos are often simple and authentic: Show your item in the first few seconds Be concise: aim for 15 seconds Focus on one benefit or important feature Think about silent viewing    Start simple, then adjust based on performance.   Get started    If you’re already using priority strategy, you can easily add a video to your existing campaigns. You can compare performance using new video-specific metrics, like view rate and video completion rate, alongside the results of your existing campaign.   If you’re new to advertising or priority strategy, video makes it easy to increase your visibility while staying in control of your budget. You only pay fees when a buyer clicks on your ad, and you can start with just a few listings.   You can add a video to your listings in Seller Hub, or directly to your campaigns from the ad dashboard.
