Update on the new U.S. tariffs and policies regarding eBay sales
Summary: Starting on August 29, 2025, the U.S. “de minimis” exemption will be suspended, affecting all shipments regardless of value through the imposition of customs duties. In response, La Poste has announced the suspension of shipments to the United States because of the tightening of customs procedures. Only gifts between individuals worth under $100 will be exempt from taxes. Express services such as Chronopost are not affected. eBay will offer protection to sellers affected by these changes, including in cases of delays or disputes related to deliveries.
As of August 29, 2025, the de minimis exemption in the United States will be suspended worldwide. This means that all shipments to the United States, مهما their amount, may be subject to customs duties as well as clearance procedures.
La Poste announced on August 22, 2025 the suspension, effective August 25, of sending parcels to the United States, a direct consequence of the tightening of U.S. customs procedures. Indeed, the presidential decree of July 30 removes the so-called de minimis exemption, which until now exempted shipments valued at $800 or less from customs duties. From now on, these goods will be taxed like any other product (15% for those from the European Union).
Only gift shipments between private individuals valued at less than $100 will continue to be accepted, as they are not affected by this tax. The suspension does not affect express shipments, handled by Chronopost or by specialized private carriers such as FedEx or UPS.
It is important to keep in mind that shipments could face delays or interruptions due to customs operations in the United States. If your business has been affected by these disruptions, eBay will be by your side and will automatically protect your seller performance, including:
- Your late delivery rate
- Your not received item disputes due to a delivery delay (in your Service Statistics)
- Negative or neutral feedback related to these transactions
More information will be shared with you as soon as we know more about the impact for French sellers.
Thank you for being part of the eBay community.
