Hello, For years I’ve been buying works of art on ebay, always from European sellers. Recently, I came across listings from Chinese sellers who, for the most part, offer copies of famous paintings at ridiculous prices - 80 euros for a Rubens - and also promise to paint your order within an extremely tight deadline. In other words, you’re buying blind and your only reference is the model, which you superstitiously hope will be respected as closely as possible. The feedback from disappointed customers is overwhelmingly negative. Other Chinese works are listed for sale on ebay that are not copies. The artist, when mentioned, is always someone named "Jiang Nan", whatever the painter’s touch or style may be: smooth, photographic, or more impastoed, good, mediocre, or excellent, you’re told it’s a "Jiang Nan" work. I have my doubts! When I contact the sellers, it’s impossible to find out more, and they also refuse, very politely, to show you details of the work for sale. On their site, there is only one photo of the work, like a flat scan, no perspective, no realistic contextual setting. These paintings are generally more expensive, between 400 and 800 euros. Here too, the lack of clear communication does absolutely nothing to inspire trust. This message is therefore to ask whether anyone here has any info on this artist (in my opinion the pseudonym of a collective) and these dealers as a whole. Is it a scam or just emotionless business that is still honest about the goods sold? Any feedback would make me happy. thank you.
