To booksellers: how do you interpret this?
Summary: allotami expresses concern about the removal of La Poste's "Books and Brochures" offer in 2025, fearing prohibitive costs for sending books abroad. jacquelinedu36 thinks buyers will pay more, while allotami counters that rare books do not justify expensive shipping. frelonverre suggests selling quickly or limiting sales to France. passifloreflo criticizes La Poste's strategy and the authorities' support, and jprc-25 mentions another shipping option for some countries. khrystofe believes buyers will buy fewer books.
On La Poste's site about the Books and brochures shipping rate.
""End of the bag offer on January 1, 2025 and of the full offer on July 1, 2025.""
If I interpret this correctly, this books and brochures offer is going to disappear!!
In that case, it's impossible to sell abroad given the prohibitive rates. Who is going to pay more in shipping costs than for the book itself??
What are we supposed to do with entire libraries received through an estate ?? At Ressourceries the books are shoved into a corner and not appreciated, libraries don't want them, and book-sharing boxes are full. That only leaves the fireplace for heating.
What do you think ??

·1 year agoLEAVE LA POSTE SINCE LA POSTE IS TURNING TO TELEPHONY, BANKING, INSURANCE AND DOESN'T CARE AT ALL ABOUT THE PUBLIC SERVICE THAT IS MAIL DELIVERY... PROHIBITIVE RATES CAUSE THE DROP IN MAIL VOLUME AND NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND AS LA POSTE CLAIMS! ALL THIS IS HAPPENING WITH THE BLESSING OF ARCEP AND THE SUPPORT OF OUR DEAR ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES!

·1 year agoHello,
Unfortunately, we'll have to make do with it, that's just how it is, the buyer will pay more
allotami
OP1 year agoNo, the buyer won't pay more, otherwise they'll go buy their book at a bookstore, unless it's a rare book and in that case anyway you don't use this rate without tracking.

What to do with entire libraries received as part of an inheritance
my father, a former publisher, had the answer: the pulper
since nobody wants them, you sell off what you can until July 1, 2025, and then you only sell in France
