feedback on experience: seller who cancels sales following an auction.....
Summary: A participant, alexmou_97, expresses frustration at the frequent cancellation of sales on eBay, often when auctions end at a price that is too low for the seller. Other contributors, such as max2661953 and koalagris, point out that while this practice is possible, it does incur fees for the seller. nareio shares a positive experience of finding amicable solutions with sellers. marion29bzh recounts a similar incident where a sale was canceled under a false pretext, expressing disappointment with this dishonest behavior. Finally, jacquelinedu36 explains that these situations are part of how auctions work.
Hello,
I’m reaching out to the forum to get your feedback and experiences about sales canceled without valid reason by sellers...
The only common point each time is that the auction ended with bids that were relatively low compared to a market price....
As a result the seller cancels the sale (sometimes without reason....) or gives me some made-up excuse....
That doesn’t make me want to stay on Ebay, clearly I don’t understand why people don’t play fair, so there’s no point in watching items.
And I’m asking myself more and more questions about the site itself.....
I’d like to know if other people have had the same kind of misadventure ???
Thanks to all for your replies

·1 year agoHello,
thanks for opening this topic, I had already heard about it but had never experienced it, I had always come across nice sellers who admitted that it was part of the game.
But it just happened to me one evening late, on a small item that I also expected to buy for more, but no one followed through. The next morning when I wanted to go pay, there was nothing left in my purchase account, no trace and no message! I had to search everywhere to understand, and see that in the end the sale had been canceled by the seller for “item not available”.
So I sent her a message to understand, and she replied that she had broken it while trying to pack it! So I pointed out to her that she could have warned me, I asked for a photo while telling her I’d still take it, that I can restore it if it’s not in 1,000 pieces, which would be surprising.
Reply: “I threw it away”.... Such an obvious lie that made me angry and I told her that I had the photo of the item and that it would be easy to see if she put it back up for sale, and in the end she was the one who insulted me!
It’s a shame that we can’t react in any other way than on this forum and report this kind of dishonest behavior to eBay, because obviously only positive ratings are visible since without a completed transaction we can’t pass anything on to the public. And it’s true that it’s a bit off-putting...
There should be a blacklist for this kind of practice.

·1 year agoHello,
Ebay allows sellers not to sell items that haven’t reached the desired amount
Just like ebay allows buyers to withdraw from their bids
That’s the game

why dig up a thread from a year and a half ago, and on a bogus topic at that
you feel offended by this "betrayal" , it’s nothing , if you only knew what sellers put up with from the distracted , the indecisive and others who want to give themselves the impression of existing, of feeling the excitement of bidding
in short , do like us and leave us pi....ing

·3 years agoHello, @alexmou_97 and the others
Some sellers play along. Others don’t. We can understand them, and that’s why what I appreciate is when the seller contacts me through the messaging system to see whether, perhaps, we could find a solution, for example by canceling the sale and then relisting it as Buy It Now with a price that takes into account both the little interest the item generated since no one bid against it, and what the buyer is still willing to pay. All of that without leaving e-bay, and without a dispute.
In fifteen years, it has happened to me several times to win this kind of auction, far below the maximum price I had set, with varying outcomes depending on the case and the intrinsic value of the item.
What ultimately stays with me most is this very fragile item shipped as tracked letter mail in a plain envelope. Clearly, the seller, very disappointed, was hoping it would arrive in pieces. It arrived intact. I took pleasure in warmly thanking him while marveling at the beauty of the item, ha!
He would have done better to contact me, explain himself, and give me priority for a reasonable Buy It Now price...
Best regards.

·3 years agoHello, @alexmou_97 ,
A seller has the right to refuse a sale, and a buyer can back out.

OP3 years agook, thank you for your feedback.
So if I understand correctly I put an item up for auction at 1 euro, and if the final price doesn’t suit me I cancel the transaction and everything is fine?....
So there’s no point in trying to buy through this method.

·3 years agoHello @alexmou_97
" if the final price doesn't suit me I cancel the transaction and everything's fine ?" = ebay will charge the seller the commission fees as if it were sold (=refusal to sell), you should know that anyway....
A long time ago the bids stopped going up anymore; experienced sellers list at the minimum price they are willing to accept.
best regards

OP3 years agoI agree with you, now things are going in the wrong direction for the site....
Personally, it makes me less and less want to buy or sell on Ebay....
Between buyers who don't pay, sellers who cancel, ratings only being posted every other time ....it looks more and more like a ghost platform....
After that, it's just that I'm wondering what advantage there is to being on ebay ???

you say: " Between buyers who don't pay, sellers who cancel, ratings are messed up once out of 2 "
The problems you raise are also becoming more and more common on other marketplaces.
Granted, there are plenty of issues on the site (mainly the endless bugs ...), but when it comes to the change in mindset, it's not the platforms that are responsible.
This evolution is growing by the day and doesn't seem to have any limits ... Whether on the buyers' or sellers' side!
You'll come up against it here just like everywhere else ( and not just on e-commerce sites ... )

OP3 years agoHello, thanks for your feedback. It’s true that this mindset is becoming more and more common.
I don't hold Ebay responsible for people's actions.
I appreciate the Ebay platform and how it works, I even prefer it to other marketplaces.
Fortunately, I’ve also come across honest, friendly people who are in tune with the platform.
I thought that at this rate, honest people would end up leaving the site.... but maybe I'm mistaken.
