PACKLINK carrier overcharges extra fees for weight differences!!
Summary: A participant reported experiencing issues with a shipping service that allegedly overcharges for incorrect weight claims, labeling it a complex system and an organized scam. lingma85 suggested avoiding intermediaries to solve these problems, but substarr noted the alternatives are also challenging, citing their experience over 15 years. luper7310 shared a similar complaint and expressed a belief that a related marketplace might be complicit in the scheme. The discussion highlights frustration among small sellers with shipping logistics and intermediaries.
Hello,
Do you often have this case ??
This is the third time that Packlink has unfairly charged extra transport fees for supposedly overweight parcels !! Which is totally false !! I now take photos of each of the few shipments I make with them because they are thieves !!
Here are the emails I received and I am attaching the photo with the weight on my scale !!
They are really scammers !!
-------------------------
Dear Customer,
We have received a notification from the transport company chosen for your shipment, Chronopost, indicating that the parcel ------, with carrier tracking number XW0693714----, has been checked by their services and that the weight and/or dimensions turn out to be greater than those entered when the order was placed.
Reason for the additional charges invoiced by the carrier: Excess volumetric weight. The volumetric weight audited by the carrier is higher than the declared one.
| CARRIER AUDIT | Weight | Length | Width | Height | Volumetric weight |
| ORDER WEIGHT AND DIMENSIONS | 1.51 KG | 42 CM | 41 CM | 22 CM | 0.58 Kg/m3 |
| SCANNED WEIGHT AND DIMENSIONS | 4.2 KG | 45 CM | 47 CM | 22 CM | 9.31 Kg/m3 |
We are aware that this type of error can occur; however, since the difference has been charged to us, we unfortunately have no choice but to pass this additional cost on to you: € 5.44 (+ 20% VAT if applicable).
| EXTRA PAYMENT DETAILS | |
| CARRIER | Chronopost |
| TRACKING NUMBER | XW069371479JF |
| SHIPMENT PRICE | € 11.78 (+ 20% VAT if applicable) |
| ADDITIONAL CHARGES | € 5.44 (+ 20% VAT if applicable) |
| REASON | Excess volumetric weight. The volumetric weight audited by the carrier is higher than the declared one. |
- What is the charged amount and payment method? An amount of € 5.44(+ 20% VAT if applicable) will be automatically charged to you, via the same payment method used when the order was confirmed, in accordance with the General Terms and Conditions read and accepted when the shipment was confirmed.

·1 month agoMe too, lately Packlink has been constantly making these ridiculous overcharges. The procedure for complaining is complicated because often it doesn’t work. They ask for proof even though, according to the law, it’s the carrier who has to provide photos if they complain AFTER accepting the parcel. In short, a well-organized scam. They drain accounts with complete impunity. For example, I sell an item that weighs less than 500 grams, and they tell me the parcel weighs 5 kg. They did this to me with 3 different carriers. Nice revenue for them.

Now you know what to do----=---> ditch the middlemen who are living off your back.

I’ve been harping on about it for weeks now for nothing... !

·1 month agoHello Lingma.
Yes......and no, because for almost 15 years I've tried everything and it takes a lot of time to go directly through the carriers. Not to mention the post office website, which only works one time out of 3. We small merchants are respected by no one. Neither customers, nor carriers, nor the legislator.
luper7310
·1 month agoSorry, but we don’t get a choice; once we receive an order, we have to go through this system.

Just because it's presented to you doesn't mean you have to jump on it..

·2 months agoPacklink refunded me the €2.86 and admitted its mistake (while still putting the blame on Mondial Relay), nevertheless the important thing is that I got this amount refunded, which just goes to show you have to complain!
here is their message:
"We checked the notification from mondial_relay, and we did indeed find an error in the transfer of the reported data."
"I confirm that today, the charge has been refunded. You will receive the amount within the following timeframes :

·2 months agoAfter an investigation, Packlink charged me an extra fee for a parcel more than a month after it was delivered (delivered on April 21 and the overcharge is dated May 26, 2026), which is why I got confused with another package, where it did finally mention the declared weight. But even then, for a parcel weighed with two different scales to be sure the weight was 3.3 kg, they invent, without proof of course, an imaginary weight of 8.54 kg. Which is of course false. It seems the company identifies large parcels, scans them, and then later on (even belatedly, more than a month later) with software charges an imaginary overweight, maybe handled by the software itself. And to think that eBay makes us work with this highly unreliable company...

eBay doesn't force you to do anything, you link your eBay account to your Mondial Relay account and import your orders, you'll get the same rate and no problem
romigo0
·2 months agothanks for the advice, but for 3 days Ebay has been offering a service for mondial relay (still via packlink), and this time payment is made with Ebay, so packlink will no longer be able to skim abusive fees linked to fraudulent checking...

anything ebay offers is going to end up costing money anyway at some point, trusting those people, giving them power of attorney to manage our accounts is exposing ourselves to a lot of hassles
we already lack trust in our elected officials, that's not to line the pockets of a multinational

·2 months agoOvercharging of more than 4 kg with Mondial Relay in my case by Packlink. This new weight going from 4.4 kg to more than 8 kg is pure invention and a lie. By telling me that it was Mondial Relay who had done the verification. After calling Mondial Relay, they told me that it was indeed Packlink who had done this verification. They told me, just like eBay, that there had been many complaints about a scam over the weight. It still remains that eBay continues to work in partnership with a highly questionable company! The cheating on my side was blatant; they said I had declared 3.3 kg when it was 4.4 kg on the label and in their database.
I had been ripped off once before on an international Chronopost shipment; it seems that fake weight measurements are commonly done in this type of shipment, if you read what eBayers say!
It would seem that since the overcharges are around a few euros, very few eBayers pay attention and report it to eBay, which is regrettable.

·7 months agoThe problem with PACLINK is that they don’t accept the margin of error like on a traffic ticket.
They have to allow for an error correction. We all make mistakes; we’re not cheats.
It could come from the scale, digital or analog.
If the weight on the parcel is 1 kg and theirs from their system is 1.1 kg, there is a margin of error of 0.1.
So they can accept that margin of error instead of charging systematically.
Because the price for 1 kg is no longer the same as 1.1 kg.
So PACLINK has to apply a reduction system like with taxes.
On the highway, the gendarmes apply a correction from a measured speed of 180 km/h to 171 km/h in order to issue a penalty, ticket, or license suspension.
But at PACLINK, they charge systematically, and that turns into a scam.

·1 year agoSame misadventure with Packlink. A made-up overweight charge, invented out of thin air, so they could wrongly bill additional fees. Legally, that’s called breach of trust, but try getting the chief investigating judge involved over a loss of 5.84 euros...
No response to my complaint, other than a waiting message generated by an AI.
As a result, I now go directly through Mondial Relay, with whom I’ve never had the slightest overweight issue, since my parcels are all weighed and declared down to the gram.
Retroactive overcharging is therefore very much part of Packlink’s business model, which isn’t very glorious.
lingma85
·1 year agogood evening @fredodamilano
Both of you, who have used Packlink, find the weight increases taken by this delivery platform surprising, even excessive...
What is surprising... is the lack of common sense you can have in thinking they work for free...
- they have to pay their staff with something..
If you do the work yourself, you'll save money... if you have someone else do it.. =... you'll pay for it one way or another...
Best regards

·1 year agoThat said, between the gloomy atmosphere prevailing on this site, the ever more restrictive rules, the sponsored ads that have become outrageously expensive, and the so-called AI managing this whole circus, you really must be lacking " luck " to keep sliding into every trap

OP1 year agoA bit of common sense on your part too!! Do you really think Packlink charges at the price they buy at!! honestly?? Surely you do realize they still make a nice margin!! Their scams mainly happen in 90% of cases with Chronopost!! eBay knows about it but they couldn't care less!! If all sellers reported it to eBay that would be better, or else we'd need to make a petition against Packlink to wake eBay up, otherwise it'll stay like this!! Personally, I use Packlink for Colissimo when the post office site **bleep** which is pretty frequent at La Poste, otherwise NADA with them!!

·1 year agoI think there's a big problem with PACKLINK, eBay's shipping platform.
Their system scans arbitrary weights and charges you outrageous overages.
I shipped a Dell PC to Nice, 4.3 kg + the box 5.8 kg. Declared weight 6 kg.
Their system scanned the Dell PC at 8.7 kg. HUGE... and an abusive charge.
The Dell Optiplex 5060 SFF small form factor PC weighs 4.3 kg.
And PACKLINK simply scanned double, 8.7 kg.
Honestly, enough to make me leave this platform and go to the competition..
This is not serious. We're not cash cows. We're not cheaters..

·1 year agoHello @estelle2010
Don’t say you thought this help would be free...?
- what do they pay their employees with.... ??? ( carrot coins...?? )
Given that this platform can’t tax the buyer...
well... it’s the seller/shipper who pays for the service they use... and that’s perfectly normal...
However, as @*miss-tigri* tells you, you are by no means obliged to use it and to feed a company which, in reality, doesn’t serve much purpose since you can do it yourself (and by doing so, you cut into your income.... or your salary;..)
Best regards

·3 months agowell... it's the seller/shipping company who pays for the service they use... and that's perfectly normal...
Perfectly normal ???? NO.
When a service is paid, the customer must be warned BEFORE the transaction, not after.
It's simply a scam, but you still need to know from the start so you can avoid this happening to you.

·1 year agoHello, I have the same issue with Packlink on Mondial Relay, I asked for the proof and it's strange, they don't send anything
so I got in touch with Mondial Relay, having a pro account for the e-commerce sites I have, and there my agent (because yes, in Belgium we have an agent) tells me that there was no overcharge on the 3 parcels I gave the tracking for, so it is indeed Packlink that is overcharging
today I prefer to go back through Mondial Relay directly for shipments (and I've never had any overweight problem with them)
judging by the reviews I think that at Packlink overcharging is their bread and butter

·1 year agosame for us, an article weighing 2kg came out saying 18kg ....
More than 20 packages in the same case are still in export with chronopost
lemondajouets72
OP1 year agoYes, indeed, overbilling always happens with the Chronopost service, which is at a bargain price.
You can use it, but in that case, you need to take photos of the parcel on your scale with the weight visible, the label visible, and the dimensions visible too. Keep the photos for 6 months; if you get billed, send the photos as a dispute along with threats of complaints, and you will be reimbursed immediately.
That worked this time, so I keep all the photos even if it's not with Chronopost international.
lemondajouets72
OP2 years agoReply from Packlink today after being very curt and demanding on my email, i.e. 24 hours after my request.
Refund granted with their apologies!!
The amount isn’t very important, but it’s a matter of principle.
Since this is the 3rd time they’ve pulled this stunt on me and I got a refund on the last 2 attempts, it’s clear there’s a scam procedure behind it!! Their last 2 attempts were each time with the carrier Chronopost and for international shipping. So from today on, I won’t be using Packlink anymore. I could have taken another carrier for this one, but I had prioritized the express side of the delivery, which was at a killer price.
Bottom line, always take photos of your parcel when you use Packlink and keep the goods carefully for at least 4 months!! That’s what earned me their apologies, which weren’t very generous, and the refund. Now I’m sending everything through another carrier, with whom I haven’t had any bad surprises so far.
Bye

OP1 year agoWeighing the parcels is a necessity before creating your shipment, I think.
What you need to do is take a photo with the weight and your parcel shipping label visible.

·3 months agoHello,
I myself was the victim of a fraudulent charge of €7.6 by Packlink on the pretext that one of my parcels weighed 6.5 kilos instead of 1.8 kilos, which is completely false. I weigh and measure my parcels carefully.
These practices are appalling!

·2 years agoHello @lemondajouets72
To avoid extra charges.. go to the Post Office yourself and/or do what’s necessary online... and fill out your forms directly on the carrier’s website...
Drop packlink, and you won’t have this kind of problem anymore..
But it’s surprising that you find it surprising that an intermediary charges you for its services. Did you think it lives on fresh air and water to pay its employees and the costs of its business...???

OP2 years agoThe post office was last century, was it??!!
No no, the post office, yuck!! The lines due to the clerk who'd rather chat with his neighbor or read Voici magazine... No thanks. Watch Dany Boon's sketch. That's exactly it!!
But you're right in principle, but not all shipping platforms are like them.
I use another one and no problems with it.
Packlink was rarely used in my shipments and now it's completely over with them.

Personally, I don’t have that kind of problem... and yet I live in a big city...
La Poste’s "PROS card" lets you skip ahead of the queues... If the "pro" counter doesn’t exist at your Post Office... check with the manager of your card center... you get priority when you show it...
