Item not received
Summary: ben_48650 bought an item on eBay and paid in full, but the package has not yet been sent. They received a message asking for a €150 security deposit, refundable after returning an old part, which surprised them because they don’t have an old part to send back. jacquelinedu36 explained that this is a common practice for car spare parts, while frelonverre suggested asking for a refund or buying used parts for the return. koalagris provided a link to a forum for more information.
Hello,
I bought an item via ebay that I paid for in full (account debited). The parcel still hasn't been sent and is supposed to arrive before 08 11.
I wasn't paying attention, but I received the message a few days ago:
"Hello, you purchased spare parts. Please pay a deposit of 150 euros. The deposit will be refunded when the old part is returned. (Auction description). Here is the payment link"
this is the first time I've bought on ebay and I don't understand why I have to pay a deposit when I've already paid for the item and I also don't have an old part to return.
Can you help me?

try to get a refund from your seller, because you didn’t pay for everything since it’s outside the deposit and you don’t have a part or go to a junkyard, buy these broken parts and send them back

·1 year agoHello,
Did you read the sales notice carefully > for car spare parts, a deposit is often requested pending the return of the defective parts
Follow the link and pay the deposit

OP1 year agoHello Jacquelinedu36,
If I understand correctly, I need to pay a deposit before sending the part in case it turns out to be defective upon receipt and I need to return it?

"in case it is defective upon receipt and I have to return it?" = not at all.
Topic widely discussed on the forum:

we don’t know anything about your case, but in general your seller has to sell reconditioned parts and he needs a part to recondition in order to be able to do that, hence a motivating deposit for that
