Works of art and collectibles
Summary: diamond_precious expresses concern on a forum about the sale of replicas not declared as such on eBay, specifically works by Max le Verrier and Chiparus. They point out that French laws require sellers to be transparent about authenticity. koalagris responds by providing a link to contact eBay customer service, stating that only eBay can answer questions about authenticity. A back-and-forth follows about the importance of certificates of authenticity and the risks associated with buying counterfeits, including financial and legal repercussions. In the end, diamond_precious thanks them for the help.
Hello,
I am shocked by the high number of reproductions and replicas being auctioned off as originals! sculptures by: Max le verrier! Chiparus!! Originals on eBay!! Seriously!
Dishonest sellers!
eBay, I remind you that in France, the sale of works of art, antiques, and reproductions is also governed by consumer protection laws, notably the Consumer Code. As for reproductions, sellers must also be transparent and clearly state that the item offered is a replica or a copy of an original work.
eBay rule condition:
Works of art and collectibles |
eBay
Authorized reproductions of works of art and collectibles eBay allows listings of authorized reproductions of works of art and collectibles. However, the seller who wishes to list such an item must clearly state in the title of the listing that it is a reproduction; the seller who wishes to list a work of art or a collectible must first make sure that the item is authentic ....
Since the seller must make sure that the item is authentic! Why not require sellers to provide the certificate of authenticity!
eBay is a wonderful company! why do you let your buyers fall into the traps of dishonest sellers !!!

OP3 years agoThank you for your reply!
And well between users we can discuss the risk linked to unscrupulous sellers who put up for sale wonderful works like those of Max le verrier or Chiparus ! sold as originals on eBay ! And why does ebay do nothing! The eBay rules and conditions are clear: Artworks and collectibles |
The seller who wants to list a work of art or a collectible item must first make sure that the item is authentic ....
Why, when I question sellers so that they provide proof of authenticity, do I get answers like this... about "works" sold for €2300
« Hello, no certificate - for expensive items like this I unfortunately can't afford to deal with ebayers with no recommendation. Sure of your understanding. Best regards. »
Mind-blowing !!!
Why not require certificates of authenticity to avoid « counterfeits »? Or « reproduction not mentioned as such »
Buying a counterfeit work or a reproduction believing it is authentic can lead to significant financial risks. In addition, counterfeits and reproductions do not have the same value as original works. They can lose value over time !
Not to mention copyright: Buying counterfeits or unauthorized reproductions violates the original artist's copyright. This can lead to legal consequences, such as fines or lawsuits.
Why doesn't eBay do anything !!!

Mentor3 years ago"between users we can exchange" = of course, I didn't say otherwise, but since your message was clearly addressed to ebay, it seemed useful to me to give you the contact link to customer service (only ebay can answer your question about authenticity certificates, for example).
