Summary: borcetog shares a negative experience about a purchase on eBay, where they were the victim of a well-constructed scam. The seller asked for a bank transfer to an English bank, but then claimed never to have received the funds, leaving the buyer with no legal recourse to get their money back. koalagris points out that the listing clearly stated there was no buyer protection, advising caution especially for high-value transactions. The situation raises concerns about the security of transactions in eBay's classifieds section.

I've been an old EBAY fan for a long time and I trust...
never had a problem until today
a very well-crafted scam
the seller, after a reassuring contact by email, asks for a bank transfer with a valid IBAN to his bank (English) which, supposedly, never arrives, even though the buyer's issuing bank provides an official transfer certificate.
the recipient refuses to contact his bank and provide proof that he did not receive the funds.
The banking system is such that the sender is left fooled and with no legal solution.
no refund of the funds possible without the approval of the transfer beneficiary...a vicious circle...
It's theft...
EBAY should provide more warning information in the classifieds section

"Not covered by the eBay Customer Guarantee"
€11,900, and yet that really calls for the utmost caution...
Especially when you read in the description "Person with limited mobility, so shipping only" 🤔
