Bought counterfeit goods, what should I do?

I ordered Apple Airpods Max thinking they were real, but obviously once I received them, after looking into it online, I realized it was a scam.
On top of that, the seller has already sold Airpods Max at low prices, so this isn’t the first time he’s scammed someone. He even gave me a fake invoice, he clearly sold it to me knowingly.
I immediately requested a return in a panic and it was accepted.
But after thinking about it and reading on the forum, I understood that it was illegal to send packages containing counterfeit goods and that I could be risking a lot more. The return was accepted and I don’t know what to do? Should I send it back to the scammer? I can’t find any other way to open a dispute. Thank you for your help
