Fraudulent buyer, claims it's a counterfeit
Summary: morane_j shares their experience with a sale on eBay where the buyer claims the Magic card box sold is a counterfeit. The buyer says the package was opened, even though the photos show otherwise. lingma85 advises waiting before contacting eBay to avoid a rushed resolution against the seller and recommends blocking the buyer after the case is resolved. Despite exchanges with the buyer, who admits the package was initially sealed, morane_j is concerned about how eBay might rule in the buyer’s favor. The seller is hesitant to accept the return out of fear of receiving a tampered product.
Hello,
I sold a sealed box of Magic card booster packs, perfectly sealed and completely new.
The buyer claims that it is a counterfeit, claiming that it was already opened, even though the seal is clearly visible in the photos, and even in the photos he himself provides. Besides, strangely (sic) he took care to photograph the box before opening it.
Have you ever run into this problem? Ebay removed my listing. I plan to contact ebay tomorrow, but I’m worried, I know that ebay often favors buyers.
Have you ever run into fraudulent buyers? Do you know how ebay handles this kind of dispute?

OP1 year agoI’ve had exchanges with the scammer. He admits that he had a sealed pack like in the photo, he admits that he does indeed have mythic cards (that’s important), and the only thing is that since the mythic cards he got don’t please him, he claims that the pack has been resealed, with no proof at all. And since obviously he opened the box and all the packs, now it’s going to be hard for everyone to decide.
Do you recommend that I wait several hours before calling eBay? I’m guessing they can read the exchanges? Do they decide based on those exchanges? Do you really think they could close the dispute against me if I call tomorrow?

The replies are shown out of chronological order...
You need to read them in chronological order..
When I told you to wait... it was to avoid the "rush" effect...
BUT you had already written to francexpressdeal that he had asked for the return... so part of my message is no longer relevant...
You can indeed contact ebay, insisting on the messages that indicate that he no longer likes his purchase...
Yes, ebay can read the exchanges... Try to guide their reading..
This transaction is a mess... accept the return and above all ask that the refund only be made after receipt of said return.... so that he does not keep the cards on top of the refund.
Regards

OP1 year agoNo, I don’t want the return, he opened the box. It’s no longer brand new and sealed. By default I don’t know what cards were inside, he can send me back anything, and that’s probably what he’s going to do.
I don’t understand how eBay can side with him. He shows photos proving that the box is brand new and sealed, he shows photos proving that the packs are brand new and sealed, but since he claims it was already opened and resealed, eBay sides with him. It’s pretty unbelievable. I’m at a loss

Mentor1 year agoGood evening @morane_j
I’m afraid the site tends to side with the buyer as soon as counterfeit goods are involved... and without investigating whether the complaint is actually true.
It’s your word against theirs, and to avoid giving the buyer what’s supposedly.. a bad experience... the site often sides with them.
If the buyer has gotten involved in a dispute, reply quickly with the evidence you have..
If that hasn’t happened yet... wait.
Don’t contact eBay right away....
If the outcome is negative for you... try to defend yourself as best you can using this link------>

no problem. It can happen.
Have a nice evening.

OP1 year agoHello,
Thanks for your reply. Why shouldn’t I contact ebay right away? I have a second box for sale, and since he claims it’s a fake, he had my sale canceled.

Mentor1 year agore... @morane_j
Why...??
- because it's better to see the other person's cards so you can counter them...
and the eBay agents you might end up dealing with in person... can close the dispute before you even get a chance to react...
Accept the return and refund -
- then add the buyer to your blocked list https://www.ebay.fr/bmgt/BuyerBlock?
and move on...
Best regards
PS..
For the removed listing, you can create a completely different one to avoid the bots flagging you again...

Has your buyer made a return request? If so, for exactly what reason?
morane_j
OP1 year agoHello,
The buyer is requesting a return because he claims the item has already been opened, even though in all the photos he provides, the item is sealed.
