Dishonest buyer
Summary: jamming394 describes their first selling experience on eBay, where a buyer reported problems with a Pokémon card they purchased. After initially claiming everything was fine, the buyer opened and then closed a dispute, eventually claiming there was a defect. jamming394 suspects a scam attempt, as the buyer refuses to provide clear proof of the defect, brings up inconsistencies, and refuses to contact eBay. *miss-tigri* asks for clarification on the status of the dispute.
This is the first time I’ve sold on eBay. I sold a Pokémon card in near-perfect condition (I have photos to prove it). The buyer received my card, told me everything was in order, kept insisting for several days that he didn’t have a button to validate the transaction (which means the funds are on hold since eBay thinks the transaction isn’t finished), opened a dispute and told me it wasn’t him and that it was a bug before closing it, only to finally tell me he wanted a return because, according to him, the card has a defect on the back (a small dotted line, presumably). He showed photos, but it could very well be another card since they all have the same back. So I asked him for a video showing both sides, and he told me he couldn’t send one on eBay, that he had no social media, and that he didn’t want to create a temporary account on social media or send me his phone number. On top of that, he keeps saying it’s pointless to contact eBay since “the buyer is king.”
The fact that there are so many sketchy things, that he refuses to send proof, and that he has a completely inconsistent story from one day to the next, leads me to believe he’s going to scam me. I think he already has the card I sent him, but damaged, and that’s the one he’s going to send back to me, so he can keep the mint one.
What can I do?
Sincerely

Mentor2 years agoGood evening
You say he closed the dispute, so he can no longer reopen it ..
What is the actual situation?
