Strange delivery address
Summary: daniel-jakson expressed concerns about an eBay sale, where a well-rated American buyer requested delivery to a non-residential address in France, linked to a nonexistent company. *miss-tigri* suggested canceling the transaction due to an address issue without penalty. francexpressdeal noted that the situation could be normal but advised checking the buyer's profile with eBay. In response, daniel-jakson pointed out inconsistencies, such as a suspicious email address, and is considering canceling the sale after contacting eBay.
I've been an eBay member since 2007 and I've learned to be wary of scammers, but it turns out they're getting more and more clever. I recently sold a fairly rare item to a well-rated U.S. buyer (110 positive reviews). He paid for the item immediately and everything was going well until he gave me a shipping address in France based in Tremblay, in the middle of export companies with no website. At first I thought it was a forwarder, but after several attempts to contact the buyer, he eventually replied that there was nothing to worry about and that it was the address of a friend he usually works with. Not only is the address not residential, but it also lists the name of a company that does not exist (search on Societe.com and the business directory)
What do you think? I'm very worried

Mentor11 months agoHello
Was the address provided to you by eBay?
If the amount is significant,Personally, I wouldn’t take the risk and would cancel the transaction because of an address problem..

OP11 months agoThank you for your reply. Yes, the amount is indeed significant. The address was provided by the buyer because he chose « other delivery method » instead of the one I was offering (DHL) for international shipping.
Should I notify eBay before canceling the order to avoid penalties?
Thank you

Mentor11 months agoSounds a bit like a scam to me..
By canceling for invalid delivery address, there is no penalty.
For more information, see our order cancellation policy.

Mentor11 months agoGood evening @daniel-jakson
you say: "he chose ‘other delivery method’ instead of the one I was suggesting (DHL) for international shipping."
He provided an address in France, and "other shipping method" was the only delivery option possible for France. So on that side, there's nothing abnormal.
As for this member's profile, if he were a scammer, there would at least be 1 review that would have alerted you.
And the fact that he is asking for delivery in France via a friend is nothing unusual.
The problem is that given the item you sold, you will always find something that "looks off".
You can contact eBay customer service and try to see whether this profile is clean or not. It will all depend on the person you get, because under the GDPR, they are not supposed to answer you on that topic.

OP11 months agoI had offered the choice: delivery in France or international. The person did indeed choose another shipping method and therefore gave this address. After another exchange this morning, he tells me that his friend works in this import-export company and can send it to him at lower cost and taxes than international delivery.
The strange thing is that he says he lives in the USA but when I receive a copy of his messages in my inbox, his address ends part @members.ebay.com.hk…
I think I’ll follow your advice, namely contact eBay and then cancel the sale for lack of a shipping address.
