Cancel a payment entry

Hello,
A buyer purchased or reserved 2 items. There was no payment because we handled it through another listing as a single lot. I mistakenly confirmed receipt of payment for the first transaction.
I am trying to cancel this sale but can't get it done. The dropdown menu "Cancel a transaction" does not accept confirmation. Yet eBay charged me transaction fees on this cancelled listing for which there was neither a completed sale nor payment.
How do I cancel the listing and get back the fees wrongly collected by eBay? Thanks!
