VAT scam
Summary: jeanlouis6023 explains that they paid VAT twice for international purchases made via eBay, because DHL also charged import fees. eBay refuses to refund the VAT, arguing that the April 2024 purchase falls outside the 92-day refund period. jeanlouis6023 is considering involving FEVAD and DGCCRF and is looking for accounts of similar experiences. jacquelinedu36 points out that VAT and customs fees are separate, while *miss-tigri* suggests a link to request a VAT refund if it was paid twice.
Hello,
I bought an item abroad in April 2024 and another in November 2024. Each time eBay automatically deducted 20% for VAT.
Then DHL asked me again for import fees, otherwise they would not deliver the item to me.
I recently discovered that eBay was supposed to reimburse the VAT wrongly collected twice (their site hides this information well), but I have received a refusal from them on the grounds that the April 2024 purchase is more than 92 days old.
Also, the DHL invoices are not detailed enough for their liking.
I wanted to hear some feedback because I plan to contact FEVAD and the DGCCRF. What do you think?

You can request a VAT refund if you did indeed pay it twice:
