Scammed by a buyer

I've been a seller on Ebay for 19 years and this is the first time I've been hit with this type of scam !!!

A Swedish customer bought on 14/08/2023 under the username [Pseudo]... which he created on...14/08/2023. I sent the package on 14/08/2023 and he received it on 18/08/2023.

The package was checked before it was sent and it was in perfect condition as the photos in the listing prove. It was packed as follows: The turbo was in its original box, surrounded on all sides by dense foam. The box itself was placed inside another box. This box was taped up and strapped.

The customer contacted me on 26/08/2023, i.e. 8 days after receiving the package, with a different username (jan...) which he created on...26/08/2023 to tell me that he had noticed the turbo was broken when he opened the package.

In our email exchanges he stated that he works at [Dénomination] and that he had picked up the package, put it in his vehicle without checking it because he had an appointment with his mechanic on the 26th. Everyone who has worked for a carrier knows that packages must be checked at the time of receipt in the presence of the driver and that claims must be noted on the transport receipt. This is an international transport rule. That would already be surprising for a private individual, but it is totally impossible for someone who works in freight transport and even more so when it costs several hundred euros...

In the photos he sent, we can see hands covered in grease. When I pointed this out to him, he told me that he had removed the old turbo before opening the package, then in another email that they were his mechanic's hands…According to me, he wanted to fit the turbo himself without having the skills to do so and broke it.

He is asking me to send the Turbo back and wants to be refunded. After contacting Ebay customer service, they say they can't physically see the part and cannot rule against the buyer.

Has anyone else experienced this kind of mishap?
