Reconditioned gearbox installed at my expense.
Hello,
I bought a gearbox and had it installed by a VOLKSWAGEN approved garage.
However, I am finding that shifting from 3rd to 2nd does not work.
What should I do when I have invested €600 to have the gearbox installed.
And the seller is asking me to return the replaced gearbox, as it was an exchange unit.
Thanks in advance for your feedback;

Mentor2 years agoHello,
In exchange standard we give back the gearbox, that’s included in the sale
You had VW install the gearbox > the gearbox is not correct, synchro fault, that’s your problem and not VW’s > it would have been better to buy the gearbox from a salvage yard near your place

There is indeed a problem ..
- you buy a gearbox...
- an approved garage installs it on your car (according to what you say )...
but
- you say that it is YOU.. who notice that shifting from 3rd to 2nd is sticking...
(you write ----> "However, I notice that the 3rd........." )
and the mechanic..?? ... he says nothing...???
In reality.... who installed the gearbox.. ? - you....?? - the mechanic...?... what about the responsibility of the ordinary installer...?
A part installed on a vehicle after purchase is hard to "return" to a seller... If they ask you to send the gearbox back...=..... take it apart and send it back...
But make sure to fill out the return request here-----> Return an item to get a refund | eBay
Best regards

OP2 years agoThank you for your reply.
It was the mechanic ( VOLKSWAGEN authorized ) who alerted me to the problem, by
sending me an email because I was away on a trip.
It was when I came back from my trip three days later, when I
picked up my vehicle ( VW Transporter T5 ) that I noticed the anomaly.
And what I would like to know is, who is going to pay the assembly costs of the
gearbox ?
€600 for fitting it and probably the same amount to remove it in order to
send it back.
Who is going to pay the assembly costs ? Knowing that it was only possible
to assess the gearbox once it was fitted.
Kind regards,
