Disappointment
Summary: raypau-100 expresses disappointment at the drop in visibility and sales on eBay since 2017, attributing it to high sponsored listing fees. They note that without sponsorship, items struggle to get views. francexpressdeal responds by pointing out that the sponsorship system is common on major platforms and that changes in the economy affect sales, advising to test different sponsorship rates. Both agree that many sellers face similar challenges.
I have had an eBay account for more than ten years. Until 2017/2018, my sales were
going smoothly, there were a lot of views on my items. Today, nothing is going well anymore, my listings
get no views, and moreover, if the items (in addition to the eBay commission) are not sponsored, you
don't sell anymore. Sponsorship fees are getting higher and higher: 8, 9, 10 and even 12%.
Now, a non-sponsored item takes several weeks to get its first views and I
don't know how long it will take to sell.
Either eBay is clearly losing momentum or it wants to make more profit with these
sponsorships, which penalize sellers, especially on low-priced items.
I’m more and more disappointed. What a shame; before 2017, as soon as an item was listed,
(put up for sale) the views came pouring in and it felt good as a seller; today, when you have
3 or 4 views after 15 days = tedious.

views are one thing, but in general it’s mostly sales that make sellers happy...
Now, regarding the sponsorship system, no one is forcing you to follow the site’s recommendations... It’s up to you to do some tests and define the sponsorship rate that suits you.
More and more sites are putting this system in place, so you’re going to have to get used to it. I’m obviously talking about the big sites here (the ones that actually generate sales).
The fact that in 2025 you have fewer views / sales than in 2017 is perfectly normal. The economic situation is somewhat different... You’re not an isolated case. Most sellers have been seeing drops in revenue for quite some time now, regardless of the sales platform...
