Tax return
Summary: hv4600 shares information he received from his tax office regarding reporting income from non-professional sales on eBay. He mentions that platforms must provide an activity statement and that reporting is not necessary for second-hand sales if the gains are less than 3,000 euros or below 20 transactions. He wonders why the number of transactions is a criterion. francexpressdeal shares a link to other information on the subject.
Hello,
So just a quick word to get everyone on the same page about the topic. I received the reply from my tax office regarding the amount and conditions of turnover to declare for sales of items on Ebay as a non-professional seller.
The reply is:
Platforms are required to provide you with an activity statement specifying whether you must declare the income received.
A declaration exemption by platforms is provided for income from the sale of second-hand goods between private individuals, as well as in the case of a service “with no profit motive and with cost sharing with the beneficiaries” (such as carpooling).
However, this exemption only applies provided that certain activity thresholds are not exceeded. In practical terms, for the exemption to apply, the user must have made on the platform over the entire calendar year less than €3,000 in revenue OR fewer than 20 transactions.
If the user has exceeded each of these two thresholds (more than €3,000 AND more than 20 transactions), the platform must declare the income to the tax authorities: it is indeed possible that this then constitutes a professional activity.
So, if I understand correctly, I’m already at 6,000 euros but with 12 transactions, so no declaration.
It’s strange this thing about the number of transactions, right?
