eBay International Shipping: VAT collected by eBay
Summary: laetifany is having a problem with eBay International Shipping regarding VAT. After paying VAT when buying an item in the USA, they also have to pay customs fees upon delivery in France. I have a question about items shipped with the eBay International Shipping service.
If I buy an item in the USA, import VAT will automatically be charged and then added to the purchase price.
Where the problem comes in is that the listing says: Import duties and taxes may apply upon delivery.
Last month, an item arrived in France with VAT already charged, and then La Poste asked me again to pay the VAT a second time, plus processing fees.
There is probably a malfunction.
I should add that if I show La Poste that I have already paid, they don’t take it into account; it is not proof for them.
What complicates things is that in this case eBay offers to provide proof of payment (a VAT invoice, for example), but La Poste does not provide one.
Any idea? Tip?
