Hello, I sold a Magic: The Gathering card to a buyer in the United States, I provided an international tracking number, but since July 20 the post office has had no more information about the mail, as if it were at the sorting center and then nothing. In case of loss, given that I did send it with tracking, will I be penalized by eBay and have to refund the value of the card even though I am not the cause of the problem? Thanks for your replies.
In the event of loss, it’s the carrier who reimburses the seller (after filing a claim and if the shipment was sent with insurance) and the seller reimburses the buyer (or ebay will force them to in the event of a dispute, by taking the funds from their account).
But given the time of year and customs delays, there’s not much to worry about for now: feel free to contact 3631 as soon as tomorrow for more info.
thanks for your reply, I already anticipated that and filed a complaint with 3631 (la poste) and I'm waiting for a response.
But the carrier will only reimburse me the price of the stamp, i.e. 4.7e, but not the price of the card, so I, the seller, am going to end up being penalized for refunding the buyer. Ebay should cover this risk to also guarantee the seller protection on that side too, that's what the other sales platforms like MKM do.
"the carrier will only reimburse me for the price of the stamp, meaning 4.7e" = I know, but FIRST AND FOREMOST it’s up to the seller to offer a shipping method that covers the value of the order.
Ebay is not an insurance company; besides, the customer protection offered on the site just consists of taking the funds back from the seller, the site doesn’t compensate out of its own pocket...
(that said, it seems a bit "easy" to offer the cheapest and least insured shipping, whatever the item sold, while telling yourself that the matchmaking platform will put its hand in its pocket in case something goes wrong)
Well, once the platform takes a lot of fees, yes, it seems logical that it should compensate you in case of a problem. And for a card worth €20, I’m not going to propose a registered letter costing €10-15 for abroad; nobody would order.
The MKM platform takes fees but provides a refund service as long as the mail is tracked, I don’t see what’s illogical about that. It’s not every day that a mail problem happens, so it’s not exactly “too easy,” as you say, to ask the platform to take care of it, especially since Ebay takes very substantial fees.
You may be subsidized to reply with such things; it’s a bit like politics: when you want to keep your seat, you say incoherent things so you don’t lose it.
thank you for your exchange and have a good day too
PS: in any case, if the conclusion is that I'm the one who loses, then yes I'll move to another platform, Ebay is losing momentum and will continue with this policy of taking fees and turning a blind eye to its customers' requests.

Read the T&Cs:

And you’re free to sell wherever you want...

Mentor2 years agoI would have given you exactly the same answer on the forums of other platforms, since this pattern is indeed the norm...
If you have a platform that, unlike the others, saves you from having to think in terms of shipping, we can only be happy for you.
As already said: "feel free to sell wherever you want..."
For the rest, I'll leave you to your certainties and your prejudices,
Have a good day as well.
