Sending an item internationally
Summary: adelidebae shared an issue that came up during her first international sale on eBay, where the actual shipping costs are much higher than the amount charged. The buyer, being understanding, is willing to contribute to the extra costs. lingma85 suggested either canceling the sale and relisting it with the correct shipping fees, or asking the buyer to pay the difference via PayPal. adelidebae wanted to confirm whether this method is allowed by eBay.
Hello,
I'm running into a problem with my first international sale on eBay and I could use advice from experienced sellers.
I sold a collectible figurine to a buyer in the United States for €100. The buyer paid €25 in international shipping fees as listed in my ad.
When it came time to prepare the shipment, I discovered that the actual shipping cost to the United States was much higher:
eBay only offers me UPS for about €80;
La Poste quoted me about €35 for postage + €11.80 in export/customs-related fees, so about €47 total.
The difference is therefore about €22 compared with the shipping fees paid.
I contacted the buyer to let them know. They are very understanding, have a very good eBay history, and told me they might possibly contribute to the extra costs if there is a proper solution.
My question is: how should this be handled in compliance with eBay rules when a sale has already been paid for? Is there an official way to add an additional shipping fee, or another method to complete the sale without cancelling it?
Thank you in advance for your advice.

Mentor1 week agoHello @adelidebae
The ideal thing is to let the buyer know that you’re canceling the sale
Cancel an order as a seller | eBay
because of invalid/incorrect shipping costs.
you relist the item with the correct amount and your buyer buys it again.
2nd solution...
if he has a PayPal account and you do too... work it out so he sends you the extra shipping amount so you can send the package...
See with him what works best for both of you.
But don’t ship before you’ve received the right amount.
Best regards

OP1 week agoThe buyer would like to pay the additional shipping costs directly. Is this allowed for a sale that’s already been completed, and what method does eBay recommend?
