Buyer error hand-delivery/shipping
Summary: maxsch-18 shares an experience on eBay where he sold an item for local pickup by mistake and decided to ship it at his own expense. koalagris advises that it was a mistake to send it without canceling and relisting the listing, and they discuss the risks related to the buyer not having provided the pickup code yet. maxsch-18 considers informing eBay to get ahead of any potential problems, but koalagris points out that without the code, the item is considered not delivered.
This afternoon I had a buyer who didn't see that the item for sale was for local pickup (my mistake when creating the listing) and bought an item from me (after I pointed out the local pickup error). I accepted shipping at my expense since that was my original choice, but now I'm waiting for the famous local pickup code even though my item has already been shipped. Should I open a dispute or contact Ebay for an update to this sale?
Thanks everyone for telling me the next steps to take to protect both buyer and seller, so everyone is happy.

Mentor2 years agoGood evening @maxsch-18
"while my item is already shipped" = serious mistake (you should have come to the forum before).
No shipping for an item sold for hand delivery!
the buyer will not give you the code before (which is normal) but if they don't give it to you afterwards you will never get the money and they can get refunded, this code is given at the meeting.
You should have canceled the order and made a new listing with shipping: no other solution.
all you have left is to count on their honesty....
best regards
P.S. : don't offer shipments without tracking because in the event of a dispute over an item not received you will have no proof of delivery and the buyer will be refunded, correct your current listings right away.....
