Fraud - Ebay doesn't protect me
Summary: jaihorreurdespeudos complains about a scam on eBay where a seller sent the wrong product and ignored messages. After opening a dispute with PayPal and refusing to send the item back at their own expense, they saw their claim rejected. koalagris and francexpressdeal advise that eBay procedures should have been used before PayPal for a possible refund. jaihorreurdespeudos expresses frustration with the additional return costs and the perceived ineffective procedures of eBay and PayPal. koalagris points out that following the procedures correctly could have led to a different outcome.
Hello,
I got scammed by a seller who sent me (from the United States) a completely different poster than the one I ordered and who never replied to my multiple messages about the wrong item sent. Paypal customer service instructed me to return the item to him, which I did not do because I feel I should not have to pay shipping costs once again, especially to the USA!! Without any guarantee that the seller-**bleep** will actually confirm receipt ...
My claim was then rejected. I’m disgusted.
What can I do?

OP9 months agoI did actually go through Paypal first, thinking that was the best thing to do since that’s the payment method I used. I probably should have gone through ebay first, which I contacted afterward, but I was told that a dispute had already been opened (with paypal), so well.. the two of them communicate well together..!
I didn’t understand why I was being asked to send the product back AT MY EXPENSE. I found the whole way they handled it totally over the top, especially since we’re not talking about €2 in fees..( FRA =>USA ). When you get scammed, are you supposed to send the item back at your own expense now? I still had photos to back it up! screenshots of the conversation with the seller who had stopped replying... It’s honestly outrageous. And I’m still furious, even if maybe I went about it the wrong way, and even then, I don’t see how; I filled in the whole file.. I don’t see what else I could have done, other than pay AGAIN for shipping costs LOOL.. with no guarantee that the seller would confirm proper receipt and wouldn’t screw me over... So in the end, ebay/paypal support is completely worthless, even with proof to back it up.

Mentor9 months ago"no guarantee that the seller confirms receipt properly" = already answered, that argument doesn’t hold water.
"ebay/paypal support is completely bogus" = from the moment you give yourself the right to go off the beaten path by refusing to follow the procedures and do them, moreover, out of order, it’s pretty obvious that that doesn’t help and that you’re not in a position to judge the ebay guarantee since you have, deliberately, refused to use it by taking action directly on paypal, while also refusing also for them to refund you, because there was no effective return of the order...
It says it all!

Mentor9 months agoHello @jaihorreurdespeudos
you say "The Paypal service told me to send the item back to them"
You handled this problem with Paypal, but you conclude that ebay is not protecting you...
That said, it is pretty obvious (whether it’s ebay or paypal) that if you don’t send the item back, there will be no refund...

Mentor9 months agoHello @jaihorreurdespeudos
Nothing more can be done.......
You should have started by filing a return request on eBay :
https://www.ebay.fr/help/buying/returns-items-not-received-refunds-buyers/renvoyer-un-objet-pour-obtenir-un-remboursement?id=4041&st=3&pos=1&query=Renvoyer%20un%20objet%20pour%20obtenir%20un%20remboursement&intent=objet%20non%20conforme&lucenceai=lucenceai&docId=HELP1134
(PayPal would still be claimable afterward, if the eBay dispute went wrong)
The seller would not have had to confirm receipt: the tracking number proving it would have been enough to trigger the refund.
Too bad you didn't come on the forum before....
Best regards
