Account closure and recovering funds
Summary: geek-46 expresses dissatisfaction with a sales platform’s fund withdrawal policies, especially the requirement to provide a SEPA mandate to recover €45 after a sale. He wants to avoid authorizing a direct debit and suggests receiving the amount via PayPal or bank transfer by sharing his bank details through another channel. koalagris explains that the only option is bank transfer and that the terms and conditions changed in 2020. geek-46 criticizes the system’s inefficiency, pointing out the lack of any way to reinvest directly on the site. koalagris clarifies that there is no internal wallet and that account closure procedures can take a long time, particularly to cover potential claims.
Hello,
I have about €45 in available funds following a sale whose claim period has expired.
I make 1 sale every two years since 2007, for about a dozen purchases.
I would like today to close my open account because I refuse to submit to the obligation to enter my IBAN. By entering your IBAN, you also electronically sign a SEPA direct debit mandate at the same time.
I would like to get my €45 back into my PAYPAL account or by bank transfer, in which case I would agree to communicate my bank details by email or on paper.
But I DO NOT WANT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES to sign for a SEPA direct debit.
It feels like being held hostage with shady tactics: For example, if I want today to reuse my blocked €45 to make one last purchase on EBAY, I can't because THEY WANT a SEPA MANDATE obligatorily.
I am outraged by these methods.

Mentor2 years agoHello @geek-46
The site will pay you the money ONLY by bank transfer (under no circumstances to Paypal).
As you already know, the only way to recover your funds is to complete the registration as a seller (therefore with the SEPA direct debit), after which you can cancel this authorization with your bank and close your eBay account.
The Terms of Use were modified in 2020, too bad you didn’t become aware of them before listing items for sale (in 2020 the site sent countless emails about this).
Best regards

OP2 years agoOk but the absurdity of this policy, and I don’t think it’s stated in the T&Cs, is that I can’t even reinvest these funds to buy a new item on Ebay.
And likewise, since I’m simultaneously requesting closure AND payout of the funds, there’s no point in regularizing a SEPA mandate now.
This system was poorly thought out, because there’s no harm at all, quite the opposite, in sellers using the proceeds from their sales to buy items on the same site.
Inane.

Mentor2 years ago"reinvest these funds for the purchase of a new item on Ebay"// " sellers use the proceeds from their sale to buy items on the same site" = except that there is no wallet system on ebay.
"since I am simultaneously requesting account closure AND payout of the funds, there is no point in regularizing a SEPA mandate now. " = the buyer has 30 days from the delivery date to file a dispute on ebay, 180 days from the payment date on paypal, and 13 months if paid by card, so ebay wants to be able to take back the funds in the event of a claim (they obviously don't want it to come out of their pocket).
in any case, account closure is never immediate; you have to allow several months after the last transaction for the closure to be finalized...
