Information on in-person hand delivery procedure
Summary: mistergemini asks questions about the in-person handoff process on eBay, wondering whether payment can be secured through eBay to avoid cash payments. They also mention concerns about fraudulent claims of nonconformity after the handoff. koalagris confirms that the QR code serves as proof of handoff and that payment can be secured on the site, but points out that return refusals are only valid if the buyer changes their mind, not in the case of nonconformity. mistergemini thanks them for the information.
I’m in the process of selling an item, and the leading bidder seems interested in local pickup.
I understood that eBay now provides a verification QR code between seller and buyer for this situation, to certify the handoff of the item.
My question is: I do not want cash payment at pickup, but rather for the buyer to pay through eBay services, so that I’m sure the money is received by eBay before I give them the item.
Can you confirm that this is possible? I find eBay’s information not very clear for this situation.
Last point, the QR code makes it possible to formalize the handoff of the item, but if I understand correctly, it does not protect me in the event of a fraudulent claim of non-compliance after pickup by a dishonest buyer, and in that case the no-returns statement in the listing has no value.
Are there any best practices to minimize exposure to this risk?
Thank you for your answers. I started selling a few items on eBay again this year after a long break, and I’ve lost count of the number of zero-feedback profiles that never paid me for the items they bought or, at worst, tried the most basic scam techniques, without it seeming to concern eBay’s teams.
Best regards.

Mentor2 years agoGood evening @mistergemini
Everything is on this help page:
https://www.ebay.fr/help/selling/shipping-items/setting-shipping-options/local-pickup?id=4181&st=3&pos=1&query=Proposer%20la%20remise%20en%20mains%20propres&intent=remise%20en%20mains%20propres&lucenceai=lucenceai&docId=HELP1136
You’ve got the gist: QR Code serves as proof of handover, payment on the site is OK, and the "return refused" on the listing only applies if the buyer says they changed their mind (not if they claim it’s not as described, and in that case zero risk doesn’t exist, especially for this type of equipment).
