LETTER FROM THE FRENCH COLONIES
Hello
I bid on a lot that was ultimately awarded this Sunday evening right at the very end of the auction to
a buyer who had not made themselves known and who has no ratings. (0)!
I suspect collusion between the seller (pro) and an "accomplice" intended
to drive up the bids and who, in this case, ends up being the buyer
despite himself.
Is there a dedicated service for this kind of scam?

A shill bid is there to encourage other members to bid higher, so inevitably, by leaving them time to do so.
A bid 13s before the end is, in fact, not consistent with this dubious process, unless it’s a particularly stupid shill bid... 🤔

I think the seller put the item up for sale hoping to sell it at a
certain price and, to do so, had someone drive the bids up until the hoped-for
price.
In the absence of bidders, the price stayed below that and so it was the « bid
pusher » for the occasion (rating 0!!) who ended up acquiring it
I believe it’s not any more complicated than that, unfortunately ..
If the item reappears, I’ll be on the lookout !!

Before talking about "scam", you need to know what the word "scam" means....
It’s a synonym of -------> fraud, theft, deception...
- is that the case...?
Even if you have suspicions, you don’t have proof...
Now, as for your winning competitor---->
- it may be a "bid pusher".. but it has to be proven...
- it may also be a regular buyer who used a sniper for this listing and who won because he bid + higher...
And to continue... NO, there is no dedicated service for what you’re asking for.

Call it what you like, fraud may not be
the right term, skulduggery may be more fitting.
When a buyer who has never bought anything on eBay
(0 feedback) nudges me into a bid with 13 seconds to go (we're talking a little over 100E)
I am entitled to ask questions and to consider that it
is a 'shill bidder' to use your expression and
that he only showed up for the occasion in order to make the
lot sell above a reserve price that in the end was not reached.
A novice would have bid at first, as we all
did when we started out!
I am going to 'follow' this mysterious buyer but I would not be surprised if he
disappeared..

Possible.... but maybe this ending is better, as you describe it.. than a refusal to sell to you from the seller because the minimum price was not reached....
- how would you have reacted, then...?
