PayPal dispute even though the item was delivered - eBay rejects all responsibility
Summary: ngu234143 shares a negative experience with a sale made through eBay. After selling an item and shipping it quickly, the buyer opened a dispute via PayPal on the grounds that the item did not match the listing, even though ngu234143 provided a photo of the item to prove otherwise. The dispute was resolved in the buyer’s favor, which led to a refund on eBay and a loss for ngu234143. Despite an attempt to resolve the issue with eBay, they declined any responsibility and advised responding to PayPal, leaving ngu234143 with no direct recourse with PayPal.
Hello,
I sold an item on Ebay, fortunately worth < 20€.
I quickly sent the item with Colissimo, delivered within 48 hours.
On receipt, the buyer immediately made a return request, but quickly closed it and filed a dispute directly with his payment provider, Paypal. All this without any message.
I got the dispute through Ebay's interface: there isn't much info, but it seems to me that the reason is that the item doesn't match the listing. However, I took a photo before sending it, and it is indeed the item from the listing. I think the buyer bought the wrong model. I did send this photo through the Ebay dispute interface, believing that everything was OK.
Today, the dispute was decided in the buyer's favor by Paypal, and Ebay is taking money from me. I don't know how that's possible, but it's understandable because in this matter, the buyer is Paypal's customer, not me.
I contacted Ebay thinking that Paypal still has a duty to protect me because I sell on their platform. To my surprise, Ebay rejects all responsibility in this matter, and simply replies: "We recommend that you respond to the chargeback request as asked by your payment provider."
So I simply lose the item and the shipping costs without being able to do anything, because I am not directly with Paypal and therefore can't contest it.
