Delivery impossible within the allotted time
My item was bought while I was on my trip to Japan …I won't be able to make the delivery until I get back, which will be after the deadline set by eBay! I sent a message to the buyer, but how can I notify eBay?

In case of absence, you need to put your account in vacation mode (or arrange for a third party to handle the shipments).
= no delivery postponement possible on ebay after purchase.
All that's left is to accept the defect for late delivery, which will inevitably be recorded on your account (whether the buyer is ok with waiting or not), or to cancel the transaction and refund the buyer.
