No obligation to provide a German intra-Community VAT number under VAT exemption
Summary: dada-livres is experiencing issues with eBay demanding a German VAT number, despite being a French auto-entrepreneur whose sales within the EU do not exceed 10,000 euros per year. They believe they are not obligated to acquire a German VAT number and seek advice after eBay blocked their sales to Germany. lingma85 suggests considering whether selling in Germany is worth the hassle. francexpressdeal advises notifying eBay of sales under 10,000 euros through account settings to resolve the issue.
Hello,
eBay is asking me for a German VAT number so that I can pay VAT.
I am in France, my stock is in France, and I sell for less than 10,000 euros per year in the European Union. I am self-employed under the VAT exemption scheme.
So I have no obligation to pay VAT in Germany, nor to apply for a German intra-community VAT number (USt-IdNr).
eBay has blocked all sales to Germany.
What should I do in my case ?
Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
BS

if you do less than 10,000 euros in cross-border transactions per year, you need to indicate it to eBay as follows:
In your account settings, go to sales preferences. There you have "Cross-border intra-EU sales (EU)". Click on "edit" and at the very bottom, you need to tick the box in front of the sentence "I hereby confirm that my company’s cross-border intra-EU sales per calendar year across all sales channels (not just eBay) do not exceed 10 000 EUR.
If in the future, my cross-border intra-EU sales exceed this threshold of 10 000 EUR, I will provide eBay with the required information (individual VAT identification number, one-stop shop confirmation) described above."
Then click on "Submit"

It’s up to you to see whether it’s really worth continuing to sell in Germany.. Otherwise, take this market as a dead branch... =... you cut it off so it doesn’t rot the tree.
Best regards
