New tax when buying from a private individual?
Summary: ebr35s noticed a 21% tax added to the purchase of an item from a French private seller on a platform. francexpressdeal suggested that it might be buyer protection fees, specifying that these fees should only apply to private sellers in France or Italy. ebr35s confirms that the protection fees were added, but is having trouble contacting customer service for clarification.
Hello,
I bought an item from a French private seller 2 days ago and when finalizing the order I had to pay 21% more on top of the total price, marked as "tax" in the sale details.
After that, I added other items to my cart, from pro or private sellers, French or foreign, and this tax is only added to items sold by French or Italian private sellers.
What does this tax correspond to? Is it a mistake? Thanks.
Best regards.

Mentor1 month agoHello @ebr35s
since September 1st, you pay buyer protection for a purchase from a private seller:
Buyer Protection fees | eBay
The problem is that with the figures you give, it doesn't match at all...
And above all, it says: "You will only pay the amount shown, so you won't have any unpleasant surprises when completing the purchase. Buyer Protection is included at no extra cost when you buy from sellers other than private sellers located in France or Italy."
Contact customer service to find out exactly what this fee corresponds to, because if it's Buyer Protection, there's a big problem...

OP1 month agoGood evening,
Thank you for your reply, the buyer protection fees were indeed added to the item's final price, 9.90 -> 10.56, but it does indeed seem like there is a correlation with these latest rules.
As for customer service, I tried yesterday but no response... I'll try again tomorrow.
Kind regards.

I did several tests with private sellers, and in no case does the mention of "tax" appear regarding buyer protection.
So we'll have to wait for customer service to get back to us...
