VAT number for micro-enterprises
Hello everyone,
I recently came across an intriguing situation as a micro-entrepreneur. Since my turnover is modest, I am not subject to VAT. Yet ebay asked me to provide a VAT number.
Have you ever come across this kind of request? In your opinion, what could be the reasons for asking a micro-business for a VAT number
I would really like to hear your experiences and suggestions on this topic.

see this help page:
Tax obligations in France for professional sellers | eBay
If it’s the VAT number eBay is asking you for (and you don’t exceed the thresholds):
Go to this page:
https://www.ebay.fr/spr/sbdeclaration
Check the box in front of: "I hereby confirm that my turnover for the previous calendar years and for the current calendar year does not exceed the thresholds set by the tax authorities and that I do not have to charge or pay VAT. If my turnover for the current calendar year exceeds the threshold set by the tax authorities or if the small business regime no longer applies to my activity, I will provide eBay with my VAT number."
If it’s the intra-community VAT number eBay is asking you for (and if you make less than €10,000 in cross-border sales per year):
Go to this page:
https://www.ebay.fr/spr/cbtdeclaration
Check the box in front of: "I hereby confirm that my company’s intra-community cross-border sales per calendar year across all sales channels (not just eBay) do not exceed 10 000 EUR.
If in the future my intra-community cross-border sales exceed this €10,000 threshold, I will provide eBay with the required information (individual VAT identification number, OSS confirmation) described above."
One clarification:
You say: "I am not subject to VAT". As a micro-enterprise, you are subject to VAT, but not liable for it.
