Where can I find the option to subscribe to Seller Protection on eBay
Summary: titipsi is looking for clear information about seller protection on eBay in the face of disputes with PayPal. They note a lack of clarity and availability of this option on eBay. Several participants, including francexpressdeal and francois-o, explain that there is no specific procedure to sign up for it, because the protection is automatically enabled for all sellers. francois-o provides details on the process in the event of a dispute, stressing that eBay can only step in as an intermediary. titipsi responds by expressing frustration at contradictory messages between PayPal and eBay, feeling that the matter is not resolved. lingma85 clarifies the separation of roles between eBay and PayPal and suggests steps to challenge a dispute decision.
On eBay, where can I find the option to benefit from seller protection (against PayPal disputes and other financial institutions)?
eBay talks a lot about it in its help pages, but apparently it offers no menu or form to subscribe to it and never offers it to sellers, either at signup or during sales... In short, the info is useless.
Yet in the event of a third-party dispute (PayPal for example), eBay first checks whether the eBay seller has seller protection... If not, know that you’re automatically the loser.
How do you get this protection? Is it a joke or does it really exist?
eBay Customer Service doesn't know anything about it and the Disputes department, which normally only replies to emails after 12 to 48 hours, gets all tangled up on the phone in really unclear explanations that don’t help at all...
Honestly, a customer caught between eBay and PayPal must have a lot of courage and patience to get a correct and clear answer.

Hello @titipsi ,
@francexpressdeal and @lingma85 are right, there is no need to go through a form to benefit from seller protection. It is automatically activated for every eBay seller on all our sites, whether it be eBay.com or eBay.fr.
When a buyer opens a dispute with their payment institution, eBay cannot intervene in the decision-making process.
If I take your example and the buyer opens a dispute with PayPal, then eBay informs the seller of the dispute and blocks the funds associated with the sale until it is resolved.
If you decide to contest the dispute, then we send PayPal the evidence you provided us. We can only act as an intermediary.
That is why, when a dispute is closed in the buyer's favor, you can appeal the decision to eBay as part of seller protection.
Example:
- If PayPal closes a dispute in the buyer's favor for an item not received, eBay will then use your available funds to issue the refund.
You decide to appeal to eBay, because the tracking for the package confirms delivery, eBay closes the appeal in your favor. We then handle the refund by crediting the amount to your available funds.
(In the event of a dispute with PayPal, the buyer will be refunded by the seller, in the event of an appeal eBay refunds the seller. This is because eBay cannot contest the decision of a payment institution. Whether it is PayPal or a bank).
Seller protection is not just about the possibility of appealing a decision for a dispute opened outside eBay.
I advise you to follow the link provided by @lingma85 which will give you all the information on this subject.
I assure you that this protection is indeed active and that our sellers benefit from it on a daily basis.
I'm sorry you had a bad experience with customer service about a dispute. I invite you to contact me directly on our social networks: Facebook/Twitter/Instagram
I can then look into it in detail for you and tell you exactly what is going on, because there are a huge number of possible cases.
Regards
François

OP2 years agoPaypal.
Because I called ebay and Paypal for nearly an hour, only to finally
understand that each one was shifting responsibility, leaving me on my own.
Ebay still has to reply to me in writing, but they claim that I’m not
entitled to seller protection and that anyway, for them,
I can’t even contest it, even though they just closed the
dispute today while telling me that I can contest their decision
!! Go figure.
To be continued, because for me this is far from over.

Are you deliberately pretending not to understand anything?

You write-----> "Apparently someone is lying or doesn’t know eBay’s procedures and
PayPal." after initially asking---> "the 21-09-2023 14:13....... On eBay, where can I find the option to benefit from the seller protection option"
After explaining to you that there is no option, checkbox, or form to fill out.... we all tried to explain that it is actually a series of actions during a dispute that makes it possible for either a buyer or a seller to be protected from the negative outcome of the dispute.
All of this, made up of evidence, images, or supporting dialogue, allows the site to rule on the dispute... If either party is dissatisfied, there is the possibility of an appeal and thus of having the issue reviewed again.
It must not be forgotten that PayPal and eBay have been separate from each other for several years and PayPal is now only a means of payment for eBay and its customers, and not a means of retaliation in the event of an eBay dispute (it remains so, however, outside eBay and on other sites ...)
The two entities, eBay and PayPal, have each evolved on their own and you need to adapt to that...
As for challenging the decision in your dispute, you will find below the link that explains how it works-------> Appeal an eBay decision about a return or a missing item for buyers | eBay
Kind regards

Mentor2 years agoHello @titipsi
Don't look for something that doesn't exist in the form you're describing....
Seller protection is this------> Seller Protection | Seller Hub (ebay.fr)
and in the FAQ you'll find your answer =--------> Customer guarantee also protects sellers..... blah blah blah....
In the event of a dispute... it's the content of the dispute that will do the rest, given the tenacity of the seller and their arguments in the face of the sometimes shaky knowledge of the eBay employees who will contact you (at your request)...
Regards
PS :
Of course, it would be good if a member of the eBay staff came and gave a reliable answer...

you don’t need to subscribe to any option ...
If you want more details, check the help pages.
On the other hand, as you were already told in another post, you’re covered by ebay.com. So check their help page, since customer and seller protections may differ from one site to another.
