Item not received / claim arbitrarily closed by EBAY
Summary: clairdel47 bought a stamp collection in Germany but never received it. After opening a claim with eBay, they found that the process had been closed without warning, leaving clairdel47 with no recourse. One participant pointed out the 21-day rule for asking eBay to step in, but clairdel47 expressed disappointment at eBay’s lack of warning about the claim being closed. Another participant suggested opening a dispute through PayPal, offering a potential solution.
I bought a stamp collection in Germany on July 8 last year.
Having received nothing by the end of July, I opened a claim for an item not received.
I made sure to communicate with my seller, who was very courteous and, on his side, began a procedure with his carrier.
Since then I have been waiting, knowing that during this holiday period you shouldn't expect problems to be resolved quickly.
Yesterday I was surprised to receive an email from EBAY telling me that the procedure had been closed since no activity had been recorded for 21 days in my claim.
At no point was I warned by EBAY about the closing of my case, and when I try today to make a claim, I realize that I have no further recourse or any way to get in touch with EBAY.
Is there any recourse, because I have been particularly conciliatory and patient, trying to find an amicable solution, and now I see that EBAY is suddenly shutting the door on me?

Hello ??? 😕
see T&Cs:
https://www.ebay.fr/help/buying/default/ask-ebay-to-step-in?id=4701
"You have up to 21 days after opening your request to ask eBay to step in."
otherwise it will be closed with no further action......

OP3 years agoHello,
If I understood correctly that the claim lasted 21 days, what I regret is the lack of warning from EBAY about the irreversible nature of its method, whereas usually the site is always considerate and does not fail to alert us before an important deadline.
Regarding your second suggestion, it is not materially applicable (contrary to what EBAY writes) because at no point do I have control to submit a dispute.
In any case, thank you for looking into my problem.
Kind regards.

·3 years agoHello ,
if you paid by Paypal, open a dispute on the site .
You have a period of 180 days after the estimated delivery date .
Regards.

Mentor3 years agoHello @madelodie
Paypal is an option if the buyer used it when paying, indeed.
However, the 180-day timeframe on paypal is from the payment date (not the estimated delivery date).
Wishing you a good day,
Best regards
