Item received from a buyer even though they didn't make a return

I made two sales with a buyer and both of them went very well. So there was no return or refund request. However, I received an email from ebay/mondial relay telling me that I had received a package from this buyer at my pickup point (a normal email we get from mondial relay when our order has arrived). And there, I pick up a brand-new litter box. Which obviously has nothing to do with the original sale. The buyer doesn't understand where it could have come from either. Besides, I have no record of this shipment on the ebay site (at the same time, it's neither a purchase nor a return...).
In the end there's not really any problem, the buyer is happy and I gave the litter box to someone, but I'd like to understand what happened? I'm not really keen on receiving other unwanted packages haha

The error comes from the carrier and not from eBay ..Unlikely that it will happen again..
The buyer and you not being affected, let it go.

It’s probably a problem caused by the carrier...
- if an item is not intended for you... you leave it at the pickup point and/or you let the seller know and send it back to them if there is an address error, provided that they reimburse you for the delivery costs...
