Item received by the buyer but payment is on hold
Summary: lud_9830 sold an expensive item and, despite the buyer confirming receipt, their payment is held on eBay for 30 days, which surprised them. koalagris explains that this is standard procedure for new sellers and that the buyer has no way to unblock the payment by confirming receipt. A link to the terms of use is provided for more information. francexpressdeal and koalagris discuss how customer service communicates these clauses, adding a humorous tone to the conversation.
I sold an item (nearly €800...) on Friday, June 13.
The buyer paid less than an hour later, and I shipped it the same day.
Problem: postal service tracking, both on the French and German sides, is unreliable.
But the buyer confirms having received the package and even left me a positive review!
During a call to the eBay hotline, I was told that my payment would remain blocked for 30 days as long as the buyer had not confirmed receipt. But no one can explain WHERE the buyer is supposed to click.
It's really pathetic...
Have you ever faced this situation?

"as long as the buyer has not confirmed receipt. But nobody can explain WHERE the buyer has to click." = there is clearly an error in wording or interpretation.
Indeed, on eBay the buyer does not have the option to confirm anything; they can only leave feedback, after which only the carrier’s delivery status - updated automatically, but often with delays - is considered valid.
That’s not the issue: new sellers or occasional sellers always see their funds held for a certain period, which can go up to 30 days for valuable items (that matches the possible window for opening a dispute for non-receipt or non-conformity), everything is explained on this help page:
https://www.ebay.fr/help/selling/getting-paid/getting-paid-items-youve-sold/payments-hold?id=4816&st=3&pos=1&query=Paiements%20bloqu%C3%A9s&intent=paiement%20bloqu%C3%A9&lucenceai=lucenceai&docId=HELP1450
It’s very surprising that customer service didn’t mention this clause in the T&Cs.
So you’re going to have to wait...
Best regards

"It's very surprising that customer service didn't mention this clause in the Terms of Use."
Personally, I would have been surprised by the opposite (or even scared!) 😁
Have a nice day!

Aside from the fact that we don't know what was actually said/understood, I thought the sarcasm in that sentence was obvious... but it's true that I forgot the matching emoji, sorry 😉
have a good day too
