I was sold an S21 5G advertised as functional and unlocked for all carriers, but it doesn't work
Summary: bcobou-x4wam2oor5 explains that they bought a phone on eBay that was supposed to be unlocked, but it doesn’t work with any carrier. After contacting the seller, who kept promising an unlock code without ever providing it, bcobou-x4wam2oor5 no longer received any replies. koalagris recommends checking what recourse is available through PayPal, since the eBay dispute window has expired. bcobou-x4wam2oor5 regrets not checking sooner and stresses the need for eBay to improve its guarantees and take action against dishonest sellers.
Hello community. I’ve just been the victim of abuse. I bought an S21 5G on Ebay described/presented as fully unlocked for all carriers. The phone is presented as in never-used condition, opened, functional, and compatible with any carrier. I ordered it on July 30 and received it on August 8, 2023. I wanted to use it toward the end of October 2023. No matter which SIM card from any French carrier is inserted into the phone, that card does not register on the network. When you do a network search on the phone, it sees no network. After contacting the seller, who asked me to go to a local repair center. Which I did; they all concluded that this phone has a problem and that it needs to be returned to the seller. The seller kept insisting, telling me he would send me the unlock code. I told him yes, but with the unlock procedure. And since then, the seller no longer отвечает to my messages and to my request to return the faulty phone for replacement. I feel cheated and deceived by a dishonest Ebay seller who is misleading customers and sending bad products to Ebay customers. I no longer have access to Ebay’s option to return the phone. I no longer even have the possibility of getting Ebay involved despite the seller’s bad faith. Please, tell me how I can escalate this problem in order, on the one hand, to stop this dishonest seller on Ebay and get a refund for the faulty product that never worked? Kind regards

Mentor2 years agoHello @bcobou-x4wam2oor5
The deadline on eBay to open a dispute is 30 days from the delivery date...
It was unreasonable to wait 2 months before testing the device.
If you paid by PayPal, check their site, as the dispute period there is 180 days from the payment date.
best regards

OP2 years agoHello and thanks for your feedback. You are absolutely right. I wasn't careful enough not to test it right away. I had onfiane in the seller's supposed seriousness. I wasn't expecting such an obvious surprise. My example must be a common-sense warning for all members of the community. Yes, since this mishap I do all my shopping with Paypal. Ebay must ban bad-faith sellers like the one I had, who makes fun of me because he feels protected by Ebay's 30-day return period. Ebay must improve its guarantee system so that a **bleep** cannot escape its responsibility to deliver a functional product no matter how long after the 30-day return period. This seller's shop must be closed on Ebay. Kind regards
