International shipping options: should I calculate the fees myself?

I'm hesitant to add international shipping for my sales, because I don't understand how to calculate shipping costs. Do I need to check each carrier's website (La Poste, Mondial Relay, etc.) to calculate the cost of the shipment? Or is the calculation done automatically by e-bay once I've selected the carrier? How do I know what the actual fees will be?
