sale price different from the item's purchase price following an offer received from the buyer
Summary: samue-ruqui explains a problem he had with a sale on eBay, where an item sold for 65 euros was reduced to 55.71 euros after eBay sent the buyer a 14% discount offer without the seller’s agreement. This resulted in a loss of 9.29 euros for the seller. After contacting eBay, the advisor was unable to explain the problem, but promised to get back to him. samue-ruqui asks for advice and hopes that eBay will recalculate the fees taking the original price into account in order to make up for the loss caused by this imposed discount. He is concerned about the legality of this practice and wants to know whether others have experienced the same situation.
Hello everyone,
I have a UK buyer who bought an item from me for 65 euros + 14 euros shipping. Looking at the shipping costs, I realize that the item price is 55.71 euros + shipping and export tax. In terms of eBay fees, I was benefiting from 70% off the total commissions. However, 9.29 euros have disappeared.
I contact eBay, the adviser on the phone doesn't understand and tells me she will call me back on Friday. In the meantime, I contact the buyer to ask if she received an offer. She actually tells me that she received an email from eBay (as if I had sent it) telling her that she is entitled to a 14% discount (see the attached photo of what she received). I should point out that I was not the one who sent this email or made an offer.
As a result, she bought it but surprise: the 14% was automatically taken off by eBay from my sale price of 65 euros, bringing it down to 55.71 euros. Legally, since when has eBay been sending emails like this with promotions while pretending to be the seller in order to trigger a purchase (well, I would call it forced selling, which is forbidden by law) and deducting these 14% from my sale. I asked eBay to recalculate the fees based on the actual sale price, namely 65 euros and not 55.71. Have you ever had this problem?
How is eBay going to solve this problem? By recalculating the fees and adding the missing 9.29 euros? Because it is indeed up to them to cover the 14% they offered the buyer. Thanks for your feedback 🙂
