Problem sale ended
Summary: valom-jrmy ran into a problem by ending an eBay auction early, thinking that would allow the sale to go through, which canceled the transaction and resulted in a €7.50 fee. lingma85 explains that this action was considered an improper withdrawal of the listing and recommends relisting the item or contacting the highest bidder. valom-jrmy expresses his frustration but thanks lingma85 for the advice. Unfortunately, he can no longer see the bidders’ identities and decides to wait before reselling the item.
I'm reaching out to ask my question because I'm really stuck.
I listed an item for auction with a starting price of €40 and a Buy It Now price of €75. The bids went up to €75 3 days before the end of the auction, so I wanted to end the sale because there was no reason to let it drag on any longer.
But when I ended the sale, it was as if everything had been canceled! As if my item had not been sold and, on top of that, eBay is charging me €7.50 in fees for ending the sale ...
I'm completely lost, especially since when I clicked on end sale, it said the sale would be awarded to the last bid ...
Could someone help me?
Thank you.

You write---> " But by ending the sale, it’s as if everything had been canceled! As if my item had not been sold, and on top of that eBay is charging me €7.50 in fees for ending the sale ..."
Oh yes... you got it all right... you now need to pay.
Since you abruptly closed these auctions... eBay concluded that you were withdrawing the listing from the auctions and, at the same time, excluding your bidder..
To "punish" you for giving this excluded bidder a bad buying experience, eBay charges you the amount of the commission you would have paid if the sale had taken place.
Read what eBay says about this action--> End a sale | eBay (the table is explicit )
By the way... I don’t understand why you stopped auctions that were favorable to you... it was a crazy idea that led you... you might have won more than what you wanted for it if you had let things run...
Also read everything concerning auctions --------> Everything you need to know about auctions | eBay

OP2 years agoAnd there really isn’t any way to go back, I guess... I really thought it was to stop the bids, not cancel them, I’m gutted.
And I don’t see how I could have gotten more since the buy-it-now option was set at €75, that’s exactly why I ended the sale!
Thanks anyway for the reply, at least I won’t make the same mistake twice...

Mentor2 years agoso... @valom-jrmy
The Buy It Now option disappears as soon as there’s a bid....
You should have come to the forum before completing your sale.
Now... it’s not possible to go back..
On the other hand, you can relist your item...
- You can contact your bidder and explain what happened, as well as your misunderstanding of bidding, and ask if they’re still interested..
If so, you relist the listing with Buy It Now if the price works for you.... and you give them the URL so they can buy it....
- You can also relist it as an auction with a price closer to €75 (less 10% for example..) in order to erase the penalty that eBay gave you... (but without the Buy It Now option)

OP2 years agoUnfortunately, for a little while now I can no longer see the identity of bidders before the auction is over. Before, you could see it but not anymore (or has it just changed location?).
And now that I manually ended the auction, it says that I had 0 bidders on the item, so there’s really no way to find out the person’s identity, unfortunately. Let’s hope they reach out in a private message...
Thanks again, have a good evening!
