Problems being an eBay seller in 2024 / return shipping costs borne by the seller
Summary: isshinashina2 expresses frustration about the many challenges encountered as a seller on eBay. They mention high return fees, commissions even on buyer cancellations, and long payout delays. In addition, they criticize eBay and PayPal’s dispute system, which puts them at a disadvantage, as well as the inability to leave negative feedback for dishonest buyers. *miss-tigri* responds by suggesting exploring other selling platforms. isshinashina2 is considering deleting their eBay account.
Hello,
someone bought me a DVD and wants to return it. In the context of this return, eBay apparently offers a commercial partnership via La Poste and Colissimo on its platform with a minimum fee of 12 euros to buy this return label.
12 euros in shipping for a DVD?
Also, I sold an item worth 150 euros. The buyer wants to cancel directly.
I see Final value fee: 0.35 EUR, Final value fee 15.79 EUR, Regulatory operating fees 0.66 EUR.
So we pay fees even though it's the buyer who cancels...
Also, sales commission fees are calculated with shipping costs. The nearly 11 percent commission, well, make of that what you will.
When you open a seller account on eBay, you have to wait three weeks to a month before receiving the money.. You have to make lots of transactions before you can receive the money more quickly afterward, and even then you won't receive it immediately.
Then you know that when a dispute is opened on eBay, they block the payout of future transactions when you are a seller. For example, someone buys an item worth 150 euros from me, they open a dispute, most often for a false reason. If I later sell other items for a value of 150 euros, I won't get the money, it will be held while the dispute is resolved, and most of the time it takes ages before the dispute is resolved. However, I would still have to send the sold items without getting the money... Is it legal to do that?
Also, when a dispute has ended in our favor and the buyer is discredited, it is impossible to leave negative feedback for that person as a seller.
As an anecdote, once a guy bought a game from me and opened a dispute. He told me he had not received the correct item, with photos to back it up. Except he had not received the item... He loses his dispute. I go to his profile and I see that this isn't the first time he's done this. eBay doesn't react and his account is still there...
If someone buys an item from you on eBay BUT opens a dispute on PayPal only, in my experience, PayPal gives no information about this dispute and you can't defend yourself effectively.
When someone "buys" your item without paying for it, you have to wait 4 days to open a dispute so as not to have to pay those famous commissions.... Can you report the buyer and leave negative feedback for them: no, either.
Also, we put "returns not accepted" but in fact we are forced to accept these returns if the buyer claims "item not as described", the return is systematically at your expense.
I could go on and on, for example this time as a buyer: the loyalty account: 1 euro for 100 euros of purchases... I see fake auctions, I report them but eBay doesn't do anything either etc....
I’m sure I’m forgetting things, but it’s not easy being a seller on eBay when they take us for idiots.
So for all these reasons I think I’m going to delete my account permanently and I’ll go post this elsewhere...
