Hello, I sent an item by tracked letter. La Poste says that the mail was delivered. The buyer opened a dispute for not having received the item. After filing a complaint with La Poste, they say that the mail is lost. eBay is forcing me to refund the buyer even though I have proof of tracking. Why doesn’t the eBay Guarantee work? Thanks for your answers
The exact wording is "ebay buyer guarantee": which therefore protects only buyers... and ebay does not reimburse out of its own pocket (it takes the funds back from the seller).
You’re talking about a letter that was delivered, then La Poste admitting the loss: in that case it’s up to La Poste to apply the flat-rate compensation provided for tracked letters to your credit (and for you to reimburse the buyer).
Tracked mail has one big drawback: nothing proves the destination address, so even with a delivered status you will never win on ebay (prefer a registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt or a Colissimo shipment, making sure that the carrier’s compensation in case of loss or damage covers the value of the shipment, so you don’t end up paying out of pocket).
