Summary: thimich_7 bought a used VHS VCR that was supposed to be in good condition, but it turned out to be defective after paying in cash. The seller, also in the Var, offered a refund on the condition that the item be returned, which thimich_7 finds pointless. lingma85 replied by stressing the importance of checking the condition of items when handing them over in person to avoid situations like this.

I contacted a seller who was offering a used VHS VCR supposedly in good condition. This person lives in the Var, just like me. I offered to go pick up this item at her place. She assured me again that it worked, I trusted her and paid her in cash. When I got home, I found that this VCR is completely dead.
She says she’s willing to refund me, but that I have to bring the item back to her!
What’s the point, since it belongs in a landfill? I lost €40 plus my fuel costs.

In principle.... hand delivery is meant to avoid shipping costs... but above all to check the condition of the equipment bought on site...

Why didn't you check it before taking it away....?

- assuming the seller refuses to demonstrate that it works properly to you... you could have refused the purchase out of suspicion and mistrust on your part in the face of a refusal.....
