Private Seller
Summary: mama9193 shares that he has been collecting paper money since he was young and wants to sell his collection on eBay without becoming a professional seller, so he can leave something to his children. He wonders about the tax implications of his sales. koalagris and lingma85 advise checking eBay's tax rules and explain that discussions with a tax inspector may be necessary to prove that these sales concern a personal collection rather than a business activity.
Hello
I have been a paper money collector since I was 12 years old, today, sick and a young retiree, I sell part of my collection a little every day on Ebay.
By the end of the year, I think it will be an amount greater than €10,000. I don't buy anything, I only resell at auction, starting at €1.
I do not want to become a professional seller because I do not want to do business, just sell my property in order to leave something to my children.
What should I do about taxes?
Thank you all

Mentor5 months agoHello @mama9193
Ebay is obligated to provide the tax authorities with data on its sellers because its own taxes are based on a % of revenue made up of commissions on sales.
As far as you’re concerned, you sell items and the amount declared by the site (item price + shipping costs) will be taxed or not by the tax authorities...
If it is taxed, you should meet with the inspector who handles your account to give them proof that it’s your collection and not resale... It’s in their office that the next steps for your activity will be decided.
The inspectors are not bogeymen who beat up the taxpayer... they’re people who understand the data given to them and know how to judge whether it can be used or not.
