Sell in the USA
Hello
I would like to sell a vintage gold piece of jewelry in the USA. Are there any additional eBay fees (currency exchange fees) versus selling in Europe? Are there customs fees for the buyer? What is the safest shipping method? Is a refund possible if the package gets lost or if the customer is acting in bad faith and says they never received anything? thanks in advance

Your questions----->
- Are there additional eBay fees (currency exchange fees) versus selling in Europe?
Foreign currency conversion fees are generally paid by the one who pays...
In the eurozone... there are no conversion fees.
- Are there customs fees for the buyer?
A buyer in the € zone doesn't have any customs clearance because goods are in free circulation.
On the other hand... a foreign buyer (US for example..) will become an importer in their country and will have to pay customs clearance to retrieve their purchase.
- what is the safest delivery method, is there a possible refund if the package gets lost or if the customer acts in bad faith and says they never received anything?
So that the seller is not penalized in the cases you mention by the obligation of a refund... it is always necessary to ship by registered mail with insurance (the amount of which must also cover shipping costs)... depending on the amounts shipped, take out a flat-rate insurance if it is offered by the carrier and/or an ad valorem insurance if the amount exceeds that covered by the flat-rate insurance.

For your last question, I omitted to tell you that...
- whatever the reason for non-delivery, you will have to refund the buyer the amount of the transaction...
Then, if you had the good idea to properly insure your shipment, you will turn against the carrier who did his job badly in order to be reimbursed for the insured amount.
It will only be under that condition that you won't lose any money..
(some might tell you that this would reduce the number of sales because the delivery amount would be too expensive and therefore a deterrent... that's true but it's better to lose +/- dodgy or too timid buyers than to lose the entirety of an expensive transaction..)

OP1 year agoThank you very much lingma85 ! I’m going to look into the price of registered shipping with insurance!
last thing, when an American wins an auction, does Ebay calculate the extra fees for him (exchange fees, customs..) or does he have to calculate them on his own? because that changes the final price considerably especially with registered shipping with insurance 🙂

Mentor1 year agore.... @hv4600
Foreign buyers, especially those in the US, know that they have high shipping costs (customs, exchange rates, etc....) and won't come after you for that.
As for French people who buy outside the € zone... all fees are calculated after the purchase because the seller cannot determine the geographic zone of their potential and/or future buyer when creating their listing.
They can only determine postage by zone, but the other fees depend on the destination country, whose customs clearance may be unknown to them. And besides, it is not the seller's role, as the exporter, to know all the costs the buyer bears as the importer... it is up to the latter to find out whether the expenses incurred will be too heavy for them.
