Recently, I ran into a problem where a buyer was refunded even though they didn’t return the item. That cost me 270 euros. That leads me to ask the following question: This makes me think THE SELLER has no protection

check your account settings for returns.
It’s possible for a seller to set up their account so that the buyer is refunded even before the return has been received.
See if it isn’t this setting that’s enabled in your account.
