Notice to shippers and buyers of Gallé vases on ebay. For some time now, false listings of Gallé vases have been circulating at auction. Let me explain:
Sellers (usually profiles with few ratings) hijack real vase listings, generally sold a month earlier. They copy / paste the listing and post it as an auction.
Of course, they do not actually possess the vase they are offering for sale. I was alerted at the end of December 2025 by a seller who had seen one of these ended listings relisted by another seller.
I got proof of it when I bought a beautiful Gallé at auction for €2000, bought from a serious seller, I received the vase, no problem. As a collector and Gallé enthusiast, I keep an eye on new items for sale. I was surprised to see my vase listed for sale a month later, with the same photos and the same description as in the seller's listing from whom I had bought it, but it was a different seller.
I was once again confronted with these scams a few weeks ago. I had bid on a beautiful enameled Gallé, I lost the auction... A month later, the listing was posted again, I bid and won the auction;
Thinking I was dealing with the same seller as the first time, who had put his vase back up for sale, because sometimes buyers back out after sales. I later realized it wasn't the same seller as the first time. Before paying, I asked him to provide me with additional photos of the vase, other than those in the listing.
The seller was unable to do so!
Then he immediately gave me a "Positive" rating while accusing me of being a bad payer!
In short, it's unfortunate but be very careful when bidding on Gallé pieces (usually the beautiful, uncommon ones), check the history of ended sales and the sellers' profiles.
It is obvious that these listings are intended to extort money from a sale, but these "sellers" must be poorly informed, ebay does not pay sellers with small profiles the proceeds of their sale until the order has been received by the buyer.
